On Thursday, December 27, 50 alumni, undergraduates and their dads gathered in Gimbel Brothers' restaurant for the annual Christmas holiday luncheon. Club President Parker F. Soule Jr. '31 was toastmaster, and he introduced the main speaker, Mr. Harold W. Scott, vice-president of The Pennsylvania Company for Banking and Trusts. Mr. Scott is the father of Ronald C. Scott '52.
Mr. Scott delivered a highly informative, inspirational talk; one which was well aimed at the young men from Hanover who will soon have "gone out from their alma mater." It was, however, a message that was good for us all to hear. Mr. Scott said that the idea of no more frontiers is wrong. There is opportunity galore in business. He did note, however, that there are fewer spots at the bottom than at the top for the man who is willing to dig in. The records show that the generation of the 1930's did not turn up outstanding executive leadership; whereas, the generation of the 1940's has a better case history in that respect. There is, unfortunately, something of a void in the manifestation of executive leadership among the men age 30 to 40. He reminded the group that college graduation, alone, means nothing; that experience only gives a man the opportunity o learn more with which to work. Present at the luncheon were:
