After the death of Mr. Kelly, President Newton asked me, as the son of a member of '86, to assume the secretaryship of the class. I told him that in my opinion only a member of the class could really be its secretary, but that I would nevertheless consent to act in that capacity.

This arrangement is part of President Newton's "Family Plan." Under this the son of a member takes over the secretaryship when a class has been reduced to ten or fewer members. After the death of the last member, the secretary will sustain an active interest in the College among the members of the class family. The plan is being followed by '86 and it is anticipated that other classes will adopt it.

In his family letter of April 29 President Newton announced the establishment of a scholarship fund in memory of William Kelly. Further details on this will be circulated in another family letter in the near future.

It is gratifying to report that President Newton has returned to his home in Winter Park from the hospital in Orlando.

I have received many of the class records from the President, Dr. Kelly, Biff's son, and Eleanor Richmond. Miss Richmond is certainly entitled to relief from the labors she has long performed as assistant secretary of '86. The entire '86 family is deeply grateful to her for devoted service to the class.

LEST TRADITIONS FAIL: Frank Sanborn (I) and Herbert Gage are the only members of '87 left who reune in Hanover at Commencement time. Close friends for 72 years, both now aged 88, they attended high school together and graduated from College as engineers.
