As we get under way for a new year in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, much of excitement has occurred to initiate spark to the starter button ... Dartmouth College has begun full swing production of new Dartmouth men; our Big Green balances the scales with a win and a loss; the perils of two wild lassies. "Edna and "Carol," have left their feminine temperamental scars from the coast of Maine to the tip of Florida; another Dartmouth Night, October 1, has come and gone for another year; and, the heat of a broiling summer in Atlanta extends into a different strata of intensity, directed towards a promising and productive new year for alumni endeavors in the Southeast.

Our regularly scheduled bi-weekly luncheon meetings, held at the Hotel Piedmont in Atlanta on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, proved very timely on September 13. It served as a send-off for two upperclassmen and one freshman; and as a i introduction to a coming freshman at Dartmouth. Lunch for sixteen strong included Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jones, parents of Glower Jones '58; Dr. Vernon Powell, father of Rom Powell '56 and Wally Rogers '56, son of popular Atlanta Journal staff writer, Ernie Rogers. Marsh McGough '27 introduced his son Don, who anticipates joining the ranks of the Class of '59 next year.

Lou Fortuna '38 arranged to make the envied trip to Hanover over the weekend of October 2 to attend the national enrollment conference, where some twenty enrollment leaders met to discuss bigger and better campaign plans for the coming year. We were proud to learn that Lou was able also to be on hand at the Dartmouth Night ceremonies on October 1 in Hanover, and to hear a homespun, words-and-music rendition submitted by his Georgian group read before the assembled body. While Lou attended this conference, some sixteen alumni of the Atlanta group assembled at the home of GrahamConklin '43 to celebrate the evening in full stag fashion. Midst a varied medley of Dartmouth songs, wetted by beered tongues, much was accomplished in open discussion of plans for the year regarding enrollment features, and attractive seeds were planted for the growth of big trees.
