Well, gang, here we are again, ready to keep you all informed for another Dartmouth school year of all the doings of the Class of '51. Let me first thank you all for the letters you wrote during the summer. It was good hearing from you. Keep it up! We have so much news to pass on to you all — so let's start with the ever-increasing "Marrieds."

The former Nina Susan Hall is now proudly Mrs Charles Geilich. The bride is a graduate of Colby Jr. College, class of 1952, and of Wheaton College, class of 1954. No other news on the newlyweds, other than that Charlie is still a member of the Coast Guard Reserve, and that the Geilichs honeymooned in Bermuda. Better late than never, we'd like to report the April wedding of Miss Donna Oberlin and Josiah Welch. Donna is a graduate of Ohio State University. After a Southern honeymoon, the happy bride and groom are now settled in Newburyport, Mass., where Josiah is associated with the Chase & Leent Insurance & Real Estate Agency. Also married way last April were Miss Maribel Tucker and Harold Johnson Jr. The Johnsons are living in East Orange, N. J., and Harold is employed by the Home Life Insurance Co in New York City. After doing graduate work at Columbia, Harold did a stretch with the Army. When discharged, he was a 2nd lieut. And out in our neck of the woods, Miss Bernice Haller said "yes" to Ens. Franklin D.von Heimburg. Frank and Bernice "mooned" in New Orleans, and are now living in Bambridge, Md„ where Frank is stationed with the Navy. Bermuda, being the popular place for honeymoons, saw Mr. and Mrs. JohnMitchell in June. John and his bride, the former Audrey Meyer, are now living in Utica, N. Y., where John is employed as a sales representative for Socony-Vacuum Oil Company. And last June, Lyona Strohacker became the bride of Dwight Allison Jr. Dartmouth ushers at the wedding were DouglasFrandsen, John Clayton, and Allan Karcher. After spending the summer at Cape Cod, the newlyweds are making their home in Cam" bridge, Mass., where Dwight will be at Harvard Law. Lyona is a June graduate of Wheaton College.

And still another couple taking the big step were Joe Morelli and Thelma Roy. Thelma is a secretary for the First National Bank of Boston, and Joe, after serving as a 2nd lieut. in the U. S. Army in Korea, is employed by Brown-Forman Distillers of Louisville, Ky. Also married last June in Schenectady, N. Y., were Martha Coachman and Peter Fleming. The Flemings now reside in N.Y.C. where Peter is a fourth-year student at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Martha is a graduate of Mt. Holyoke and the Mary Hitchcock School of Medical Technology. Last May 15, in Glenbrook, Conn., Patricia LaCroix and EdmundHunt were married. The bride, a graduate of the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing, is on the staff of Stamford Hospital, Stamford, Conn., and Ed is with Pitney-Bowes. And now, last but not least for this month, we report the marriage of Nancy McCabe and Franz Schneider. Erich Wisiol supported Franz as his best man. Nancy is a graduate of the Mary Hitchcock Hospital School of Nursing, and Franz is starting his internship at Stanford University Hospital, San Francisco, Calif., where the newlyweds will make their home.

Now for a list of engagements - some of which have probably by now turned into marriages. To lead off, Mary Ann Dineen said she would to Jim Tobin. Jim is in the U. S. Air Force, serving as a 1st lieut. Marcia Ackerman and Richard Higley will marry sometime this winter. Dick is with the Irving Trust Co. in New York City. A romance which began on the Stanford University campus has culminated in the engagement of Miss Nancy Nattimer to Kendall Way. Ken and Nancy met while they were both doing graduate work at Stanford. Nancy previously was graduated from Grinnell College, Grinnell, la. Mary Parsons will marry RaphaelPoritsky sometime this fall. Raphael is in Uncle Sam's army, and has been since August 1951. Recently returned from Korea, he plans to continue his studies at the University of Rochester after his discharge. Miss Paula Nelson's parents have announced her engagement to Bennett Bidwell. Paula attended the University of New Hampshire. Bennett has served with the Army for two years, following his graduation from Babson Institute, Wellesley, in 1952. And that's the engaged crowd for this month. Congratulations to you one and all.

SOME OF '51's DEGREE WINNERS! Following are some of Harvard College's graduate degree winners: Bachelor of Law - Paul R. Staley, Jeffrey O'Connell, Richard Eigner, Paul Orth, and Bernard G. Sykes. Master in Business Administration - Richard G. Terry and Frederick Lord. Doctor of Medicine - Franz Schneider, Edward Landau, Howard Pearson, Robert W. Woodhouse, Stanley van den Noort, James E. Cavanagh, Donald W. Clark, Jerome M. Block, Peter R. Dallman, Giles B. Hamlin, Tilbert R. M. Gyorgy, Edgar R. Miller Jr. and Erich S. Wisiol.

We think that's some list! To continue along the Degree line, Aldan Markson received his Bachelor of Law at the commencement exercises of Columbia Univ., where he was a Stone Scholar and an associate of the Legislative Drafting Fund. Alfred Holt won his M.D. from Cornell, and the Univ. of New Hampshire gives Robert Williams its Master of Science degree. James Eldredge, after receiving his M.D. from Boston Univ., is interning in surgery at Boston City Hospital. And that ends the list of awards and so on for this month.

At Fort Richardson, Alaska, Pfc. LeslieViereck is recuperating from his harrowing experiences on Mt. McKinley. We're sure you all have seen Les's pictures in Life magazine of his ascent of Mt. McKinley. Les himself was in too weakened a condition to assist in the rescue of his injured companion, but he stayed at the base of operations to brief the Army, Air Force, Civil Air Patrol and civilian search parties. When he returned to his unit for medical attention, his major physical complaint was his feet, which were frostbitten and badly bruised on the trip out. Les has been in Alaska since graduation, and took graduate work at the Univ. of Alaska. He's been in the Army since 1952, and expects to return home when he gets out of the service this fall.

A nice letter in from Peirce McKee locates him at Rolla, Mo. Peirce and wife, Roxy, expect to be there for the duration of his army career, with Peirce stationed at nearby Ft. Leonard Wood. He writes he escaped overseas shipment by getting on the Mine Warfare (Faculty) Committee. Although the McKees can't as yet report any prospects for Dartmouth or Skidmore, Peirce's before-army activities stretched from Sears, Roebuck & Co., to JayCee work, to Sunday School superintendent; and he adds he'll be on the lookout for any '51 that heads his way.

A clipping from the Harvard Business School Bulletin gives us some info on AbdulSheikh. We couldn't do it otherwise, so we quote:

"As a trustee, I am actively managing the Sheikh Fazal Ilahi Noordin Charitable Trust - a humanitarian foundation with the welfare of the people of East Africa, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia at heart. The educational plans of the trust took me to Saudi Arabia for a three-day visit. For having published sixty pages of color pictures of my pilgrimage to Mecca (Saudi Arabia) in the July issue of the National Geographic Magazine, I was expecting a public hanging in Jedda, but the stars were apparently in my favor, and instead, the Royal Family honored me for my contribution to better understanding of Islam by the western world. Emir Abdullah Faisal, the Minister of the Interior and Education, has invited me to be a royal guest for six weeks and help him on an educational project for the Hajaz province of Saudi Arabia."

And that's it for this month, except to add a little note of my own. Besides our 2 and ¾ year-old Chip, Mary and I now have a good Wellesley prospect in the family, 4-month-old Cynthia Talbot Leslie, born last May 8. If any of you guys want to put in your bid early, we're already looking for prospective wealthy Dartmouth husbands! So long for now. DAVE
