The eyes of the sporting world turn to Squaw Valley this week. And the focus of '44s will be on the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team coached by one of the all time greats of the sport, Jack Riley, currently on leave from West Point.
And, of course, it's been a thrill to see Betsy Snite featured on the cover of "Sports Illustrated" and in the other national magazines. Wiley Hitchcock and I would occasionally have the pleasure of visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Snite in Norwich when Betsy was first learning to walk.
Over the years, some of our boys have racked up rather impressive titles, but until now we've never had a judge. It's Steve Tate. Judge Tate rules supreme in Westport, Conn. In addition, Steve recently opened his own law office after having been associated with the firm of Lovejoy and Cuneo in Norwalk the past several years.
In Dartmouth Club activities, the Atlanta boys just elected Rog Antaya as their VP; Bridgeport named Dick Mac Donald Secretary; the Great Divide club in Denver glowed over the return speaking engagement of ArtKiendl; and Syracuse's Central New York Club revolves about many-faceted Norm Simpson.
Don Dunbar won his Ph.D. degree from Ohio State in December. And Dick B. Allen, now with the faculty of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hartford, commences his duties as assistant professor of Physics this month.
Dave McGuire, fluids systems engineer for the Yankee Atomic Electric Company, has taken to the speaking circuit of late. In one of his recent addresses, he emphasized the great accuracy required for operation of a pressurized water reactor for power. Water used must be pure to one part of solids to one million parts of water, and that all parts of the reactor must be surgically pure before operation can be started. Dave, as you know, previously worked on atomic submarines including the "Nautilus."
You potential home builders in Connecticut will be impressed to know that John Handy has been elected first vice president of the Connecticut Society of Architects.
Fred Heidner is now in Midland, Texas, Area Administrator for the Humble Oil Company. The mail has been light this month, the only piece being a card from Boog McCloud passing through Denver where he ran into John Steele.
Don Sheridan, of Highland Park, Ill., who is executive vice president of the L. J. Sheridan and Co. and also president of the Burlington Soap Co., has recently been elected to the Board of Directors of Chicago's Lake Shore National Bank. Don has also been a vice chairman and secretary of the Cook County Chapter of the March of Dimes and a director of the Catholic Charities of Chicago. If there is any free time left over after all these activities, he can spend it at the Knollwood Country Club of which he is a member.
