WILLIAM H. HAM

Very often I think we all recall the high points of college life and in these memories the influences of Dr. Tucker always comes back to us as being the center of the force which stimulated elements of uprightness in little things of college living as well as in our efforts to learn. The following two paragraphs written at the time of Dr. Tucker's death are so well worded that I want to share them with our classmates and others who had the exceptional fortune of coming under his influence.

"Perhaps the news of Dr. Tucker's death affected you as it did me, as a breaking of the last strong living tie to my youth. Probably to no one now living do we owe, as we owed the Doctor, for a broader, truer view of life, than would have been ours without his influence."

"You remember those Vesper Services, when the light came in level from the west window, and we saw the Doctor's white head framed in the arch over the pulpit. You remember the voice with its double tone, and the vigorous rare gestures. 'Accountable to yourselves,' — 'Your choice of being or having,' — you remember scattered phrases. Deeper somehow, we were given a sense of true value and a clear outlook on matters that he emphasized for us. These same matters have proved to be fundamentals."
