I often muse upon various views to concoct a ruse to collect class dues. So this column I'll use not only for news but also for cues to get in the dues; Don't be an ass, think of your class, for a class with no cash makes you an ass with no class.

Happy Holidays and may you all prosper in the New Year.

I. Hall of Fame: Duke University has conferred a doctoral degree on Frank Loveland, an instructor in sociology and anthropology at Gettysburg College since 1972. Frank's dissertation was entitled "Dialectical Aspects of Natural Symbols: Order and Disorder in Rama Indian Cosmology," which he completed in August and received his Ph.D. September 1. He did research on the subject in 1969 and 1970 in Nicaragua. (I had no idea what the word Cosmology meant, so for your benefit also, it means: the genera! science or theory of the cosmos or material universe. So what I can deduce from this is Frank found out what the Indians call the Big Dipper) Frank and his wife Christine spent the summer in Minnesota and South Dakota researching American Indian boarding schools and their culture-contact situation. He received a Gettysburg College Faculty Research Grant for this most recent investigation, Frank is also a member of the American Anthropological Association, the American Folklore Society, and the Royal Anthropological Institute. He has two M.A. degrees, one from Lehigh and the other from Duke University. He married the former Christine Brown of Papestone, Minn., and she has a Ph.D. in anthropology. They have a daughter Elizabeth Rachael, six months old. Frank, maybe you can tell me if Wah-hoo-Wah really means "Keep on sodomizing?" as an article in the Alumni Mag once purported.

Bob Engelman has been elected senior vice president of the American National Bank and Trust Co. of Chicago. Bob, who has been vice president, is in charge of American's international banking division. He has been with the bank since Dartmouth. Bob became involved in the international sector of banking in 1971 when he joined the bank's international department and subsequently became manager of the London office. I say, good show Robert. It sounded like a good screw. (You've got to be an Engelmann, I mean Englishman, to appreciate that humor.)

II. General Babbling: Tom Gibson's life has been interesting since Dartmouth. He received his M.A. in German literature from the University of Michigan and then switched to journalism where he received his M.A. from the same school in 1967. Next he went to work for Business Week where he was stationed in Washington, then Pittsburgh. Incidentally, in Pittsburgh he was the secretary and program chairman for the local Dartmouth Club. (You can have my job, Tom). Then on to New York, and in July of this year he became BusinessWeek's Frankfurt bureau chief. Tom is married to the former Carol Easter of Jackson, Mich, and they have two daughters, 5 and 7. Ed Temple is living in Coatesville, Pa. (Chester County) in a 200-year-old stone farmhouse with nearby barn and outhouse. He has a daughter Julia, 5 and is divorced. He is presently a data processing systems supervisor in charge of corporate financial E.D.P. systems for Pennwalt Corp. E.D.P: stands for Ed disrupts Pennwalt. Hugh Savage writes, and I quote, "returned to Seattle from Portland vicinity this summer. Earned a glider pilot license down there. Oldest daughter Carrie, now 4½, first passenger, Youngest, Ginny 2, screams with delight at any aircraft, Number three due this spring and that's it." While Hugh soars, Ginny roars, and Carrie snores. Look - up in the sky . . .

By the way, Ron Kinsey is also in Seattle and loves it. His wife Carola has just graduated from law school, and they both hope to return to Hanover just after February 1976 when she takes her bar exam. See how important our Dartmouth experience was, many of us took our bar exam while at Dartmouth. To quote Ron, 'We want to see Hanover during the beautiful Spring Schlumpf!"

III. Class Smut: This is not really smut but I wanted to put something under this heading. Gus Buchtel married Margaret Evans (an English girl) in August of '75 and is living in Parma, Italy. His address is Viale Campanini 22 43100 Parma, Italy (Tel. Parma 36196). He is teaching psychology in the college and neuro-physiology in the medical school. (Thanks, Doctore Buchtel '28). Is it true that a restroom in Parma is called a parmagiana? (parma-johnna - get it? - my wife thought it was funny). Arrivederci.
