Twelve apostles of the Class attended the 54th Roundup the night before the Harvard game—Rolfe, Woods, Robinson, Bullock, Sexton, Charron, Doonan, Maynard, Terrien, Lampee, Mower, Johnson. All in good health - fine time had by all. Pretty nearly every living member of the class was mentioned; a deep interest expressed as to their health and welfare, and the names of many classmates who have passed on were remembered.
Now paste these dates in your hat — June 12-13-14, 1959, at Hanover for our 55th Reunion at Commencement time. From Squid and your secretary you will receive frequent reminders of the Reunion dates and details of events planned.
The lid in North Stratford, N. H., nearly blew off for the secretary forgot to mention that Rosy and Ellen Hinman have a grandson, Rand D. Stowell Jr., at KUA also. Incidentally another grandson, John D. Stowell, is a sophomore at Dartmouth. Beck will now lead in a cheer for KUA and Rand and a Wah Hoo Wah for John. There will always be a Rosy at Dartmouth.
Nearly 47 out of 50 cards were returned to me to be read at the dinner. All were most enthusiastically received. Jimmie Brotherhood said he'd give a million to be present - if he had it. Rosy and Sid were kept home by virus distempers. Bill Slayton sent greetings and high compliments for Pen and Sara. Johny Watson is saving his money for next June - the same with Charlie Davis. ChildLewis would give a wild buffalo from Montana to have sat in with the gang. Affectionate greetings came from Johnnie Fletcher.Tom Streeter noted he had celebrated his 75th birthday in July with a big family party and he and Ruth plan to take a boat trip to Italy this winter.
A fine letter came from Parson Hills, who had just celebrated the arrival of their third great-grandchild - and incidentally the Parson and Mrs. Hill celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary too. Neither is in good health. Send them a note - address: 295 B St. Joseph Street, Long Beach, Calif.
Leon Webster had a tough summer, spending several weeks in the hospital. He is now sufficiently improved and plans shortly to leave for California and spend the winter in Florida. His lovely granddaughter is a student at Simmons. Bull Turner, the man who in 1903 scored the two touchdowns to dedicate the Harvard Stadium, sent greetings. He now plays 9 holes of golf and stops there. How we needed Bull, Myron and Matt in the game with Harvard, last Saturday, Oct. 25, 1958!!!
Greetings came from Reddy Hatch, Whit, Withey, Jack Sanderson, Roscoe Smith, Bascom Brayton, Dave Ford, Herbie Callman, Lester Ames, Charlie Tubbs, Ike Torrey, Artie Bolster, Pat and Ann, Sam Wing, Bill Roby - and many of them expressed the hope to be with us in June.
Jimmie Walker had planned to be with us at our dinner. Jimmie thought it was time to put on the storm windows at his home, 4 Reddington Street, Swampscott, Mass., but Jimmie fell off the ladder, broke a vertebra and missed the dinner and the game and spent the week end in the Lynn Hospital, Lynn, Mass. Send him a word of cheer at his home. Recently Jimmie was in Seattle and talked by phone with Hat Hardy and Guy Woodward. He found both men in not too good health, but deeply appreciated Jim's contacting them and sent greetings.
These notes will reach you just before the Christmas and New Year's Season. Sally joins me in sending to each of you our sincere best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. My daughter, Charlotte, when she was only four years old, expressed the Christmas Season most beautifully when she said to me, while trimming the Christmas tree - "Jesus must have been the bestest baby ever born - Everybody is so happy on His birthday."
