It may be Springtime in your part of this eat land of ours, but in scenic Hanover, N.H., this Erst week in April is distinguished by the large piles of snow, the long stretches of mud and the continued skiers' march to the Dartmouth Skiway at Lyme Center.
In some parts of the country, Spring means baseball, and baseball to many '52s means following the fortunes of lefty Pete Burnside of the San Francisco Giants. Pete was the subject of a long feature article in The New York Times, headlined, "Indians Beat Nonconformist Giant."
The lead paragraph states, "Since Peter Burnside, a left-handed pitcher, is an eminently charming Dartmouth man (Note: Is there one who isn't?) with a keen business mind his tweedy friends could never understand' his yen for baseball. Whenever he returned to Suburbia he was asked, 'When are you going to stop this nonsense, Pete?' 'When are you going to get a job?' "
The article goes on to state how Pete is glad that baseball had "enabled him to avoid mass'conformity...." The rest of the article is mostly devoted to Pete, his career and his views - the report of the game sandwiched in the article notes that Pete set the Indians down in order the first inning he pitched but got tagged for a 320-foot, three-run homer in the next. Let's hope those home-run pitches are few and far between.

A Quick Statistical Sketch on the Class of 1952
This brief statistical report is based on 195 questionnaires.
Where Does Mr. '52 Reside? The largest number of those replying live in the Middle Atlantic States (65); 'others - New England (53); Midwest (32); Far West and Foreign (16) and South (13).
What Jobs Did We Get? The bulk of the replies list manufacturing and sales in combination. We also have a very respectable percentage in banking/investments, medicine, dentistry and law. Insurance, education, real estate, religion, public utilities and government were listed but were low in numbers. Some class members are still hanging on to service or student life. The Army edged the Navy by two men for service time.
Any Bachelors Left? Not many. 166 reported themselves within the bonds of marriage. 50 reported one child, 43 reported two, seven reported three, one for four - these, of course, will change rapidly. The girls edged out the boys in the children's ranks, 89 to 75. Did Your Wife Go To College? More than 80 colleges and universities are represented in our class ranks through our wives. Leading in numbers of wives in '52 are Smith, Colby Jr., Wellesley, Vassar, Mt. Holyoke. Anyone surprised?
Last in line for mention this month, but certainly first in importance to our class program and to Dartmouth's strength, is the 1958 Alumni Fund. You are invited to participate. I join with Johnny Rosenwald in hoping that 1952 comes through even better than usual in saying, "Thanks for the invitation. Enclosed is my check."
