Although I didn't get to the Class Officers meeting in New York in April, a good number did and accomplished a good deal. Of general interest to the class at large are the following: The Executive Committee recommends that the Class at its 15th Reunion confer honorary membership on Mrs. Margaret Broderick in recognition of her special services to Dartmouth and the Class of 1945, and on any retiring faculty member who was teaching at Dartmouth during our residency there. The Committee also approved the Treasurer paying all expenses for Mrs. Broderick while in Hanover during the reunion; Reunion Chairman Joe Michael reported on plans and requested a general appeal for volunteers to aid and assist him in making our 15th the best yet. (You may be hearing from him.)
The 1945 War Memorial Committee, EliotMover and Joe Michael, reported on plans of a revised type from what was originally discussed. The new idea is for a "weather post" of unpolished New Hampshire granite in which basic meteorological instruments such as barometer, thermometer, and hydrometer would be mounted beside a tablet listing the '45 war dead. The cost of such, approximately $1000, would be raised from voluntary contributions and the memorial would be ready for dedication at our 15th reunion. I hope you like the proposal for it sounds wonderful to me, and to your Committee too for they commissioned Joe and Eliot to approach the College and proceed with the plan. It was also decided to request a class vote on the problem of ALUMNIMAGAZINE subscription at reunion, asking class opinion on continuing 100% magazine subscription at a loss to the class treasury. The question of a class directory was discussed but tabled in light of the expense involved.
Charlie Holt was appointed Chairman of the Nominating Committee to prepare a slate for Executive Committee and Class Officers to be presented at the 15th reunion. You are cordially requested to submit to Charlie your recommendations. Please don't hesitate to do so, for I sometimes feel that many of you feel that you are victims of government by an unbreakable clique. Such is not the case, and we respectfully request your nominations. Serving as a class officer or on the Executive Committee is not a purely honorary job. There is a good deal of work entailed and we are constantly looking for members who are willing to undertake the responsibility. The next meeting of the Committee will take place in the Fall at a Hanover football game. And that's it. However, it no way indicates the thought, discussion and time your Committee has given to administering class affairs. Having just returned from the annual Class Officers Meeting in Hanover, I am very much impressed with what Harry Hampton and the Executive Committee are doing in your half. I failed to run across a class within 10 years either way of us who was as well organized and active.
