What a treat to hear from Ken Wlaschin. Here is his letter:
"Living in Europe eventually makes you start thinking about your roots so you read books about Nebraska and write notes to the Dartmouth ALUMNI MAGAZINE. AS I've hardly seen anyone from Dartmouth in the past 20 years, maybe a paragraph will joggle a few old friends' memories.
"Since 1969 I've been in the same place and job working as the programme director for the National Film Festival, mostly seeing and writing about movies and arranging programmes and retrospectives. The job includes about three months traveling a year to foreign festivals and archives to view films and meet people. So far this year I've been in India (on jury of New Delhi Festival), Germany (Berlin Festival), and France, and will visit Copenhagen, Istanbul, Cannes, and Varna in the next few months. I also hope to take my family to the U.S. in August (wife Maureen and son Scott). I also write about movies for various magazines and newspapers and have just finished an oversized book on the world's great movie stars which will be published in the U.S. and England in May. On the side I write trashy thrillers like To Kill the Pope and am working on one about the murders of film festival directors. None of this has made me wealthy but it's been fun and occasionally there is a little extra, like a recent medal from the Italian government which made me a Cavaliere, so I think I'll keep it up for a while. My best to all old friends."
