Coach Tom Dent has had his problems this fall. Injuries and illness of veteran players, coupled with the problem of rebuilding with a sophomore-dominated squad, have made a difficult task and the Big Green lineup has been reshuffled in almost every contest to date.

The Big Green opened auspiciously with a 3-2 upset of the University of Connecticut as Stu Johnson scored in the second overtime period to provide the margin of victory. However, the Ivy League opener a week later brought opposite results as Dartmouth bowed to Pennsylvania, 3-2. Larry Holden and Stu Johnson scored for the Big Green. Brown also proved too strong for the Indians as the Bruins outhustled Dartmouth to win, 5-2. Dartmouth's defensive weakness was particularly noticeable in this encounter.

Against Amherst the Indians came from behind in an overtime thriller to win, 4-2. Sam McMurtrie, a substitute forward, tallied the winning goal early in the overtime period and Larry Holden added an insurance score. The Indians trailed 2-0 at halftime, but Don Betterton scored twice in the second half to tie up the game. Dartmouth's defense looked better in this contest with reserve halfback Bill Marx particularly effective.

In the most recent league game against Princeton, the Big Green lost by a 3-0 score. The Indians missed several excellent scoring opportunities and the game was closer than the score indicates. It was, however, the third straight league defeat and brought the record to two wins against three losses.
