Well, hello on you there! Why don't you forget about cutting the grass for a few moments. or stop tinkering with that do-it-yourself appendectomy set, or quit watching the late late late show, or whatever it is you've been up to till now so we can have at those who are ...

WALKING THE LAST MILE

If our records are straight (a highly dubious supposition!) this item marks the first occasion since this time last year that one of the tribe has been ankling the final fifty-two-eighty! According to the Windy City press, Steve Flemer was scheduled to exchange vows on March 10 with Leslie Fulton. Probably did. Steve is an architect in Chicago.

RATTLE PRATTLE

Gordon and Elizabeth Pinkham added a daughter to their family of two boys last November 18. The moniker is Linda and she joined siblings Gordon Jr., eight, and Gilbert Corbett, five. Pink peddles paper, more specifically corrugated shipping containers, for the container division of International Paper in Somerville, Mass. He often encounters Red Shaver of John Hancock and neighbor Bill Bridge '51 in Cochituate.

STOP THE PRESSES! Looks like we have a new champ in the papooses' parade. Rod and Elizabeth Stinehour had twins on March 5 increasing the clan to eight midgets. Latest editions are Katherine Ellen and John Maxwell. Brothers and sisters seem to be pretty well divided between the sexes. Rod does scholarly printing for colleges, museums, libraries, and learned societies. If you qualify as one of those, drop him a note at The Stinehour Press, Lunenburg, Vt.

Congratulations to the babies and the bride and groom.

3 R'S IN 8-D

Stereo and 3-D dimensions won't handle the collection of news and notes presently in hand for the teachers and scholars whose numbers are eight this month, hence the 8-D lead above. One tidbit dates back many moons when Dr. Dave Fink, associate professor of education and director of student team teaching at the University of Maine, gave a speech in Portland. The topic sounded interesting, "$500,000 TV and Team Teaching." Dave's been at Maine since 1957 and the half-million represents the amount of a Ford Foundation grant for a project which includes a closed circuit television hook-up from the Orono schools to the New College of Education.... Dick Leonard is an administrative assistant at the Buckley Country Day School on Long Island and lives in Woodbury... Latest locale for Dave Lace is the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee branch. ... Andy Oliver is both a farm manager and teacher in Ludlowville, N. Y. As he puts it, "Still raising corn and dishing it out to the youngsters." Andy and Mary have two daughters, Holly and Linda, who are ten and eight. No doubt helped write the thesis he needed for his master's in education received last year from Cornell.

Phil Pearson is doing research and teaching at Temple where he is an assistant biology prof. He and Ellen live in Phillie suburb Ambler and have a girl, Johanna Jean, who turned four last April 14. Phil was a teaching assistant at Rutgers from 1956 to 1960, also did research during that stint and received his Ph.D. there before spending a year as an instructor in botany at the Newark branch of Rutgers. Phil got his master's at Mass. after a year's research assisting in 1955-6.

George Nugent teaches fifth grade in the Epping, N. H., school and lives across street from the brand new elementary school in Lee, about three miles from Durham. Not too far from Portsmouth, either, where LeoAppel has a Buick agency. Like Andy Oliver, George is a sometime farmer as well as a pedagogue.

Another North Country 3 R's man is John Caldwell who has been at the Putney School since 1953. He and Hepper have four children, Timothy J., Sverre, Peter, and Jennifer, whose ages range from eight to four.

Bud Gleason will become principal of the Central District school in Mt. Pleasant, N. Y. Currently Bud is principal of the Thornwood Junior High, and he's been in the area for several years having been principal of the Washington Irving High in Tarrytown. Previously, Bud taught at Chittenango and Canisteo, N. Y. He has a master's from Alfred and is working on a doctorate at Syracuse.

TALES OF TECHNOLOGY

The vocations and avocations of '50 engineers and similar ilk include considerable variation and geographic distribution. As a starter, Dick Putney is a research chemist for the Imperial Department of Hercules Powder in Hudson Falls, N. Y., concerned with pigment color R&D. He and Ginnie have a boy, Alan Kent born November 15, 1958, and a girl, Faith Kathryn born February 21, 1960. Dick got his M.S. in chemistry at Michigan in 1953 but stayed on till 1958 as a research associate. Sees John andBarbara Densmore annually in Beantown where Mary, John H., and Martha comprise that brood. Fifteenth reunion for the Putneys? You bet!

Also looking forward to the 15th are Johnand Mary-Louise Knapp. John is assistant secretary of HRB-Singer, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Singer Manufacturing Company engaged in electronics R&D. He got that post in May, 1958, after being a project controller and contract administrator for the predecessor firm, Haller, Raymond & Brown in State College, Pa. Three little Knapps are Lucy, ten, Molly, eight, and Jef, five. John makes frequent contacts with Tom Ruggles, Webb Gault, Fred Federlein and Jack Harlow.

Senior engineer with the Colorado Interstate Gas Co. is Don F. Brown. He and Elizabeth have one offspring of each kind, Janet and Douglas who are approaching six and three respectively. Since moving to Colorado Springs, Don's Dartmouth meetings are few, in fact restricted to seeing Dick Johnson (middle initial L. to avoid confusion) who's manager for the insurance department of Weidman & Co. there. From 1953 to 1959 Don was an assistant production manager with Sharpies Oil Corp. in Denver and then spent two years as a consultant engineer on oil production and water flooding problems.

Bob Van Valzah is standards engineer for the Kingsbury Machine Tool Corp. in Keene, N. H. The outfit makes automatic drilling and tapping machines. Earlier steps in Van's career included L. S. Starret Co. in Athol, Mass., and Midwest Piping Co. in New Jersey. He and Doris live in Winchester, N.H.

Without doubt you have already sent a larger-than-last-year gift to the Alumni Fund, but maybe you can assist SwedeSwenson and his cohorts by getting one of your reluctant friends to donate earlier or more substantially this year. The job to be done is important and deserves your wholehearted support ... as if you didn't know!

Back to the ball game, bud. See you once more ere summer siestas.
