I hope someone appreciates the brevity of this month's column. Thus to get right to what counts - those loose scraps and bits of information that make up the '58 human interest story and transcend that idyllic life we knew on the Hanover Plain.

Among those engaged in the past few months are Joann McBride of Wilmington, Del., and Jim Merrick who is now working with the American Viscose Corporation; Ann Carley of New York to Ed Miller; Mary Jane Rockett and George Martinson. George is presently finishing up at Tuck School. Reba Fleisher of Newport, Penna., to Bob Bolinger, now serving in the Navy; Irene Adcock to Steve Quickel who's also at Tuck School.

More of the affianced include another 5th year termer in Hanover — Herb Tews who's engaged to Gay Hellstedt of Hinsdale, Ill. Patricia Lehman of Cleveland, Ohio, and Bruce Carlson, now working on his Master's degree at Stanford; Sue Archibold of Albany, N. Y., and Al Mueller who was in the Army last I heard; Susan Sayers of Pittsburgh, Penna., to Pete Crane, a Navy ensign stationed in Pensacola, Fla., when last heard from; Sarane Symonds of Essex, Conn., to Jim Willing, now doing graduate work at Boston University.

Most pleased to learn of the engagement of Virginia Diefendorf and Jim Preston. That twosome made up one of the really colorful elements of the Kappa Sig house last year. Incidentally, "Diet" hails from Summit, N. J., and Jim's now in the Army. Besides teaching English at Vermont Academy, Chuck Solms now finds himself engaged - to Andrea Buhler of Great Neck, N. Y. Marilyn Mingle to Bruce Gemberling who's in the Army at Fort Dix, N.J.

News close to home comes with the announcement of the engagement of Prudence Morgan of Amherst, Mass., and a Bradford graduate to Ed Eppich. They plan a fall wedding, after which they will live in Denver. Engaged earlier in the year were Patricia Jones and Don McCree. Don's in the Naval Reserve and was recently stationed in New London, Conn. A June wedding is planned for Judy Albert and Mel Croner.

More news from the stork - a son, Mark, born to Mel and Patty Alperin last fall.

Turning now to the newly-wedded set I was pleased to note the marriage in Indianapolis, Ind., of Judith Anne Lewis to JerryThompson. Others in this class include ArtRaybin and the former Anne Jensvold of Sterling, Conn. Another announcement long delayed is that relating to the marriage of Ann Ruth Cavill and Bill Caley. Bill's now in the Marine Corps.

To wrap up with a few odds and ends, newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Dave Harwood recently treked west to Squaw Valley where Dave took part in the Olympic ski team tryouts. Joe Blake managed to break away from the law books long enough to go back for Carnival. Likewise Paul Stewart spent some time out here skiing this spring - managed to pull in just as our regional alumni organization out here was putting on its annual Dartmouth Cup Race for high school ski teams from all over the state.
