My sincere gratitude to Line Mitchell who, in the second issue of "The Sound & Fury," refrained from making spurious comments as to my dubious bacchanalian activities. The first issue carried grounds for slander. Being, however, as Mitch is fatally destined to be in Colorado later this summer as soon as his war games terminate, he too will find that the stylo has two points. Even my censored copy may reveal that Mitch thinks more of Coors brew than his own gold bar status. All things aside, though, I hope that you '58s will keep in touch with Mitch and me during the summer. While the class column will be put to bed for a few months, the pithy uncensored tongue of "The Sound & Fury" may still be productive.

Larry Weltin climbed out of his jungle hammock long enough to report in from Camp Lejeune, N.C., where he spends most of his time fighting off blood leeches and water moccasins. He says that a two-month cruise to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas Island, and other resort spots is in the making for his crowd. Here's poop on a few other '58s: Dave Brock and Cal Dyer are likewise at Camp Lejeune; Pete Hawes, Bill Caley, Fred Kosmo and Randy Austin are out at Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Phil Bell's training recruits at Quantico until he moves to Okinawa in September; Dave Pratt, Walt Fogarty, Don Maurer, and Harv Wilson are getting whipped into shape at Quantico; and Pete Morris, Phil Living-ston, and Ted Furber are learning the flying business at Pensacola, Fla.

Dave Weber stopped in Boulder about a month ago, stayed at our abode for a couple of days, then resumed his jaunt to the West Coast, where he embarked for Okinawa. The following group completed their Marine basic course at Quantico in March: Andy Toorock,Steve Dawkins, Dave Carruthers, Frank Blatz,Bill Ferguson, and Norm Sylvester. Last heard from, John Otis is still struggling through the course.

Heard recently from Ted Roodner, who's with a publishing firm in New York and will be tying the marital knot with Rena Baker on June 6 in Seattle. Ted had quite a conglomeration of news to get off his mind, among which were these items: Appears that Bob Dudley decided not to leave Hanover and is staying on this year as a teaching fellow in geography. Al Squiteri's still in Med school at St. Louis University; John Long, with a Grand Rapids, Mich., radio station, is reportedly a new papa; Bill Johnston, after a recent stint in the kiddy department of Altman's in New York, is now gunning around in a tank, ostensibly built from spare parts of Bill's old "Green Charger." Thanks for the "cornucopia," Ted.

Steve Nichols was recently awarded a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship. Steve, who's now studying in France, expects to do graduate work in comparative literature at Yale.

Well, let's knock out a few engagement notices before we put this column under wraps (where it should have been all year). A summer wedding is planned for Bob Brandt and Patricia Rose of Belmar, N.J. Bob's now an assistant buyer for Macy's in New York. A Wellesley graduate, Sally Amundson and Chuck Bradford plan a June wedding. Like-wise do Tom Jackson and Jean Fitzgerald of St. Louis, Mo., plan to secure those ties soon. Dave Parsons and Christina Reeger of Trenton, N.J., plan a fall wedding.

Dave Chapin and Deborah French's engagement was announced recently; as was AlAkeson's, now working as a sales agent in Cleveland, and Jane Merrill of Rockport, Mass., a Skidmore graduate. Andy Nichols, now at Harvard Law School, is engaged to a Smith junior, Cornelia Grant, of Wellesley, Mass. Bob Friend and Fenton Goodwin of Roanoke, Va., plan a July wedding. A September wedding's in the making for WaltVail and Mary Barr of Newton Centre, Mass. A Vassar student, Michele Clarke of Palm Springs, Fla., is Rod Frates' fiancee. The couple plan a summer wedding.

I mentioned Steve Dawkin's name a few paragraphs back. Well, here it is again. Around March 1, he exchanged vows with the former Joyce Domling, a Smith senior from Northampton. Quite awhile back, Margaret Barnes of New Haven, Conn., became the bride of another aforementioned Marine gold bar, Cal Dyer.

Well, hope this news is enough to keep you out of trouble for awhile. Have a good summer and let me know what's ticking from time to time. Any real serious problems, of course, send on to Line Mitchell. He's in charge of the class loan and procuring department and is eager to help all - for nominal fees naturally. Don't let the khaki on that boy fool you, though. He's all grey flannel underneath.
