Starting one of these columns is usually somewhat of a bitter vetch .... like sipping Airwick Manhattans .... but this month it is really a pleasure .... to start with the news that the king is still king. THE BUCKY BRANDTS ARE NOW SIX! Their fourth son Dennis was born October 4. Bucky has already tacked up two annexes to the abode and is presently negotiating options for more acreage. He is buyer of Drugs and Cosmetics for Bloomingdales, but with conditions as they are, it appears that Jean will encourage him to move into more appropriate fields like buyer of shoes and Hopalong Cassidy suits.

By the time you read this, Jack Riley will have begun his duties as Coach of the West Point hockey team. A former coach of the American hockey team in the 1948 Olympics, Jack played with the Boston Olympics last year until he broke an ankle. Let us hope that his sense of duty does not overshadow his loyalty to Dartmouth .... and that he will treat the Big Green skaters a little more kindly than his former line mate, Bill Harrison, did last year.

Truman is going to have to take a lot more afternoon naps in Blair house if he wants to match newspaper space with Meryll Frost. Latest headlined honor .... Meryll has just been elected a director of the Air Force Association; active in the Worcester squadron AFA since it was organized in 1947, Meryll has kept up his flying in addition to his extensive lecture tours and his work as assistant to the director of extension services for the Crippled and Handicapped.

Don Arnsdorf has joined the science de- partment of Bloorafield High School after two years of teaching in Hartford, Vt MaxEdwards has opened up law shop in Hobbs, X. M It is believed that Fritzie Hier sliced a new Acushnet behind the iron curtain; no one seems to have heard from him since last winter .... but the APO insists that he and Joanie are still over there RalphSitley has gone into the theatre business down in Atlantic City some discouraging news about a reaffiliation between Jack Sterling and the Marine Corps Gilbert Frank is in the ring at the Produce Exchange in NY for the Atlantic Grain Cos Chuck Regan is practicing at the Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chestnut Hill.

The best news of the month comes in the forms of wonderful little heirs and heiresses .... the Pinky Corroons' 8 1/2-1b. brother for little Ro on Oct. 8; a real Irishman that John Thomas .... the Bird Partridge s future National Open Champ Douglas Newell born Qct - the Dick Mac Donalds strapping youngster Mark Godfrey born July 14 The Bob Smiths' daughter Wendy Anne born August 28 and the John Wheelers' son John S Jr. born August 31. (Poppa John is a urological resident at the Veterans Hospital in West Roxbury, Mass but he did find time in July to take Ginny for her first visit to Hanover.)

Henry Allen and Hilda Moon were married in Petersburg, N. Y., on August 26. CharlieClucas, Walt Prosser and Art Saul were the only returnees to Hanover last month. Thanks again for your contributions to the Alumni Fund and MERRY CHRISTMAS.
