Well, how odd. Here we are again. This last month really seemed to tear by, full of late-hour oil-burning, exams, results and generally many things which made life miserable for awhile. Anyway, a new semester, a new year; it's time to re-evaluate ourselves. I'll start out by mentioning how some 'sBs have already pledged their lives away this year. Betrothed are:

Gretchen Wegner of Wellesley, Mass., to Ens. Dave Reed. Gretchen's a recent graduate of Wells College; Dave is attached to the U.S.S. Willard Keith out of Norfolk, Va. Margaret Mayher of Shaker Heights, Ohio, to Bob Ramsdell. Joanne Freyberg of Scarsdale, N.Y., to Dave Moss. Joanne is a Smith graduate; Dave's now with the Traveler's Insurance Company of Hartford, Conn. Vola Marie Therrell of Columbus, Ga., to DaveLawson. Dave's taking grad work in psychology at George Washington University. Delia Gaouette of Holyoke, Mass., to Steve Dunn. Both Steve and his fiancee are working at the Monsanto Chemical Company in Indian Orchard. Ann DeBoma of East Walpole, N.H., to Dave Bradley. Dave's a Navy Lieutenant (jg). True Diener of Manhassett, L.I., to Larry Hampton. Larry's with the Vick Chemical Company.

The following are stories of '58s who have not only gone and pledged away their single status but have already gone the way of all flesh. Married are:

Margaret Morton of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Dick Shanaman. Dick's with the First National City Bank of N.Y. Jeralyn Cornish of Elizabeth, N.J., to Army Lieutenant JohnMcCloskey. John's stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison near Indianapolis. Margaret Coxhead of West Orange, N.J„ to Ensign Lindley Hall. Mary Guyer of Erie, Penna., to John Goodnow. Eleanor Hawkins of Grosse Pointe, Mich., to Pete Durno.

Carl McCall reports that after graduation he spent a few months teaching school in Boston, then moved on to Ft. Benning for a six-month stint with the troops. He's now completing his first year at Andover Newton Theological School preparing for the Congregational ministry and doing internship in a Boston church. Oh, and Carl let it be known that on February 19 (it's past) he and Cecilia Hodges, a Newton schoolteacher, plan to be married. Good to hear from you, Carl. Best of luck.

Mumbling something about joint bank accounts and laying his head on the block, Craig Haines admits that on December 31, he and Pat McAuley became engaged and plan to be married later this spring. Craig was working at the Jordan Marsh department store in Boston before taking in Navy O.C.S. He's now stationed on the "Somersworth," a patrol boat out of New London, Conn. He says it's great duty; never spends a weekend out of a port. Don McCree is Engineering Officer on the Fairview, also out of New London.

Dick Lowry reported in recently. Seems he just finished up six months' duty as an artillery second lieutenant at Fort Sill, undoubtedly carousing around with Line Mitchell when Mitch resigned as the terror of Sill. Dick's now working with the Champion Paper and Fibre Company of Hamilton, Ohio. Charlie Dickinson graduated from Marine O.C.S. at Quantico in December. Dick Stewart is now an ensign after finishing Navy 0.C.5., in Newport.

Dick Schad, recently promoted to Lieutenant (jg) is now with the 7th Fleet out of Long Beach, Calif. Last May, Dick received a citation for heroism from the Secretary of the Navy for rescuing a drowning man off a pier in Long Beach. Congratulations from all the class, Dick.

Lastly, but far from least important, is news of additions to our great clan. Charlie and Caroline Pierce had a little girl last summer name of Carrie-Lee Deroll Pierce, born July a at the Waco, Texas, Air Force Base hospital. The family is now at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. My warmest congratulations to you. Out of Montclair comes news that John and Janet Phillips had a son on January 16 —John Ballou Phillips Jr. Likewise, my best to the three of you.
