On Friday evening, April 14, the Tokyo Club celebrated another milestone in its expanding activities. About forty members were on hand to honor two Japanese scholarship winners and to welcome them into the Dartmouth family at the San-Wa Restaurant in Tokyo. Korekyo Terada from Fukuoka and Nozomu Nakagawa from Kobe are the winners and will join the new class of '65 this fall.
The April 14 dinner was not only the culmination of our 1960-61 enrollment activities and a welcoming for the winners but a "kampai" party for more new Tokyo Indians. We were happy to see Irv Clark '56 back in the fold after a year's absence, Irv is with General Electric in Tokyo and has always been one of the Club's staunch supporters. Arthur Grimes '34 was another new face, having arrived recently in connection with McCann Erickson's new Japanese operation. It was good to see Kyoichiro Takeuchi '22 and Masuo Iwanami '25a again. As a feature of the evening, we viewed color slides taken' by our '64 scholarship boys on their cross-country junket to Dartmouth - all were made a bit homesick by Hanover's autumn foliage.
The Club bid "sayonara" to a group of members: Virginia and Hartley Caldwell '23, our Program Chairman, leave in May, faithful Club members for three years (what will replace the punch?); Henrietta and Don Bartlett '24, U. S. Cultural Attache, are returning to teaching chores in Hanover. With great sadness, Jane and I said good-bye to the Club since we leave for the U. S. in a few weeks. Our heartfelt thanks go to the Club for a beautiful inscribed silver cigarette box, which will always be a treasured remembrance of the fine Dartmouth people in Japan.
On April 22 a new expanded Executive Committee met and took office.
