The Editor of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE has written class secretaries about the plans for the special "College of Tomorrow" feature of this issue and asked all to assist by reducing their copy. I wonder if any of you, besides Bill Mansfield, can imagine the relief with which scribes pitch in to such "assistance" late in the publication season, with the carefully rationed reserve of news all but gone. In the particular case of Fiftyfour, however, the mails have at last disgorged a couple of bundles of letters and my desk is again abubble with information.

From Caracas, Venezuela, comes rather belated word that Andy and Michelle Guilliano are the parents of a daughter, Shirley, and another tad is on the way. It may also be news to some who remember Andy as a bachelor as recently as reunion time that he was married in August, 1960. In January, Bob Woodberry married the former Marlinda Mason in Denver, Colo. The new Mrs. Woodberry is a University of Colorado graduate and represented Colorado in the 1960 Miss America pageant.

Early 1962 also brought a full measure of engagements. In Tarzana, Calif., the engagement of Marilyn Newbold to DonFetheroff was announced. Don is an owner of the Van Nuys News and the Valley Green Sheet. Doug Dodge, who is an assistant secretary of the Hanover Trust Company of New York City is engaged to Chloe Irvin of Grosse Pointe, Mich. Rock Grundman was recently engaged to Mary Ellen Wallerius, a University of Minnesota graduate from Fargo, N. D. Rock graduated from the University of Virginia Law School and is now an attorney with the Federal Trade Commission. Finally, Grant Settlemier is engaged to Ann Elizabeth Niederhauser. They plan to be married this month at Ann's home in Mexico City.

Frank van Aalst has been appointed an instructor in religion at Lafayette College. He will also continue work toward his doctorate as a Danforth Special Graduate Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, working on the history of the relationships between Europe and Asia. Frank and wife Jeannette will continue to live in Philadelphia and Frank will commute to Lafayette Since Jim Fisher will probably not tell of his own fortunes in the Newsletter columns, it should here be recorded that he was recently promoted to Director, Educational Publishing Division with the Koster-Dana Corporation. Jim and wife Nathalie live in New York City where Jim will soon receive a Master's from New York University if he returns a couple of overdue books to their library. John Pratt is an Air Force Captain and is instructing in English at the Air Force Academy. Previously, John carried on a rather different instruction for the Air Force in jet fighters. This May will see the publication of his first book, "The Meaning of Modern Poetry," by Doubleday. Sinclair Hitchings has been appointed the new acting curator of the Wiggin Gallery of the Boston Public Library. He comes from a stint as editorial page editor for the Quincy (Mass.) Patriot Ledger, remains associated with the magazine, Printing and Graphic Arts, and is currently working on a history of wood engraving in America.

The ennui brought on by the usual fevers of the season is re-enforced by the desire of the Editor for a short column - good planning in Hanover which bids good for the College of tomorrow - so I will cease.
