After losing five contests in Ireland, the Dartmouth Rugby team returned to the United States to put together an outstanding record, blemished by only one loss. The Indians outscored their opponents, 196-69.,

The varsity rugby team defeated the New York Rugby Club, Princeton, Yale, Brown, Harvard, the Quebec All-Stars, and the Montreal Wanderers. The honors thus obtained included the Hartford Cup and the Carling Cup, the latter emblematic of the North American Championship.

Amherst handed the Green its only defeat, 16-13, and spoiled the Indians' hopes for the Eastern Rugby Union Championship. The rugby team was bolstered this spring by several football players including Gary Spiess, Don McKinnon, Carl Funke, and Steve Lasch.

The Indian heavy weight crew closed out the 1962 rowing season with a fine finish in the I.R.A. regatta at Syracuse. The Indians outrowed some of the finest crews in the East to place sixth among thirteen entries. Cornell, the favorite, was an easy winner, and was trailed by Washington, California, Wisconsin, Penn and Dartmouth in that order.

Among the crews finishing behind the Green were Brown, Navy, Columbia, Princeton, Syracuse, and M.I.T. Rutgers failed to complete the race. The Green had been beaten on three different occasions by M.I.T. and once by Syracuse during the spring. The Green oarsmen could therefore well be proud of their I-R.A. record.
