Ron Murphy, one of our semi-permanent foreigners, writes that he and wife Kathy "are relative old-timers in Zurich now, having lived here for three years. . . . We live in what might for lack of better description be called exurban Zurich, complete with view of Alps (on those infrequent clear days), Heidis with milk pails, cows grazing on slopes with 70 degree angles, and all those other quaint visions that Switzerland evokes." Ron toils (?) for Singer Sewing Machine Co., and says his job "involves co-ordinating New York management policies with our field subsidiaries, systems work and other sundry administrative functions," entailing "considerable traveling throughout Europe - north, south and east —as far east as Istanbul, and that is far enough!"
Moving Forward with Vigah: Bill DeLana became a partner in the Hartford law firm of Day, Berry and Howard. RalphSautter, in the credit and loan division of the State Street Bank and Trust Co., Boston, was promoted to loan officer. John Demas was elevated to senior accountant by Arthur Andersen and Co. in New York City. Also in New York, Jay Olson became assistant treasurer of Continental Can Corp.; just in time, too, for wife Lyn brought forth #5, and third son, Charles, September 23.
Lagging well behind the Olsons, but getting off to a fast start, are Roger and Dorothy Young, who had identical twins, Curtis and Timothy, January 19; Rog is in Elizabeth City, N. C., working under two of the toughest bosses in the country, Bobby Kennedy and J. Edgar Hoover. Joe and RuthGiden had their first, Michael, September 18, in Los Angeles. Charlie and Judy Friedlaender welcomed their third, and second son, Robert; Charlie is a securities analyst for Ross & Hirsch in New York City and commutes from New Rochelle. Bob and PatEnglander had their fourth, third daughter, Heidi, December 6; Bob is with Premier Industrial Corp. in Cleveland and has taken on the additional task of coordination with the company's Toronto plant. He's moving his growing family into a new house in Shaker Heights in June. Bob and MarjorieFixter had a boy, Robert, last June 19. The Zsolt de Papps welcomed a daughter, Anne, August 11; he completes his Army tour this year and on July 1 begins a second year assistant residency in medicine at Yale-New Haven medical center.
Pete Greenfield is an Episcopal priest in Hilltown, Bucks County, Pa. Art Feinstein is a planning engineer for Harza Engineering, a Chicago consulting firm in water resources development; he, Bobbie and their four children live in Barrington Hills. ChuckLowrie is a forester with the U.S. Forest Service in Foresthill, Calif. Dave Winograd was discharged from the Army Dental Corps in January. Brooks Barrett is in the media department of Benton & Bowles ad agency in New York City, and lives in Fairfield, Conn.
Norris Howard, part-time helicopter pilot extraordinaire, was immortalized in the December 19 issue of the Berkshire Eagle, Pittsfield, Mass. Norris now teaches English and coaches the ski team at nearby Darrow School in Lebanon Springs, N. Y., but according to the article he plans to return to his whirlybird next summer. This time he "would like a job in the rugged Canadian Rockies," after two summers flying in the Canadian Arctic, ferrying scientists and equipment from island to island. "The only untoward incident during the two summers," the article reported, "occurred when a wooly polar bear, apparently camera shy, attacked Mr. Howard. A friend was able to bring down the massive animal with a well-placed bullet."
Mike Ellovich last month resigned as psychologist of the Superior Court Family Relations Division's Conciliation Service, in Hartford, to open a private psychology practice. Mike is a certified psychological examiner, holds a psychology Master's degree from the University of Connecticut and is currently studying there for a doctorate. Lew Wolfson finishes a two-year Soviet studies program at Harvard in June and aims to return to newspaper work. Union Carbide Chemicals Co. transferred TomFulton from Los Angeles to New York City.
Eric and Suzanna Bergstrom and their three daughters move next month to Grand Caymon Island in the British West Indies for the start of construction of a 10-room private club-hotel, The Tortuga Club, Ltd., scheduled to be open for guests by December. "The Club will be located," writes Eric, "on a beautiful sandy beach protected by an offshore reef. Fishing, sailing, water skiing, loafing, and skindiving second to none will be featured." No prices listed. John Elkas completes two years in the Army Medical Corps in June and will begin a two-year pediatric residency at Jersey City Medical Center.
Bob Garver completed a 30-month training program at Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Co. of Chicago, and was assigned to the commercial banking department's oil and utility group. Gene Givens resigned from the F. B.1, last year to become a business development officer in the trust department of the Bank of America in Los Angeles. "It's a little bank," declares Gene fervently, "but there are those of us who love it." He also reports he's still single but has "some good prospects." He doesn't say how many. Roy Pfeil joined Noxzema Chemical Co. as marketing manager for the British Isles and the Common Market and will be moving to Europe this spring. He'd like to hear from 'sss in Europe before he leaves, and can be reached at the company's foreign division, 3100 Falls Cliff Rd., Baltimore 11, Md. Roy says Noxzema's European sales are presently limited to Noxzema skin cream, though the company also sells shaving lotion and Cover Girl makeup in this country.
Steve Little is a credit analyst for Rhode Island Hospital Trust Co. in Providence. Capt. Paul Brown is a flight instructor at Castle Air Force Base in California, and Capt. Walt Lamb is at Olmsted Air Force Base in Pennsylvania. Paul Jacobson is with the law firm of Schapiro, Wisan & Schapiro in New York City, and lives in Westport, Conn. Tuck Creamer is an account executive with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith in La Jolla and commutes from San Diego. Army Capt. Dave Corderman is in Little Silver, N. J.
