1923 is always proud of its offspring in Hanover. The list, strange to say, is growing shorter. However, the quality is still tops.

The Boston Alumni Dinner brings together each year a goodly turnout of '23 men. This year we missed our spark plug Jim Broe who fell on the ice a few days prior to the dinner and was not able to do his customary telephoning, urging attendance of class members who perpetually put oil sending in their ticket applications. The comments of the following class members are: Herb Veit, "Here I am-where are you, Jim." Leon Sargent, "Wish you were with us, Jim." Bill Blake, up from Hartford, "Jim, where are you." Pete Jones, "Jim, do you have coverage for this? We miss you." Walter Dodge, "I paid up early this year and really missed your phone calls." GeorgeMason, "I came all the way from Worcester to see you." George Coaker, "This can not be allowed to happen again." Walt Friend, "Where in heck is Jim?" Bob McMillan, "Just wait to see what kind of a bird you are." Fred Clark, "Why didn't you come on a stretcher?" Phil Segal, "Hope it never mends." Henry Hudson, "I will have to write a poem about this." Chet Bixby, "I can't wait to tell Prof. Al Foley about this." Ted Caswell, "Are you suing?"

BIRD CHATTER

Refinements and improvements are being made on some of the events scheduled for our reunion. It is contemplated that it may be possible to incorporate a combined personal inspection of buildings, etc., with the opportunity of meeting with deans, professors, and heads of administrative departments. This would be done on a group basis with transportation provided where necessary. The program would be comprehensive and co-ordinated to bring us all up-to-date both on the Dartmouth of today - and of tomorrow.

So as the humorous birds keep appearing this spring it is obvious that there will be many serious events on the Reunion Program. There will be plenty going to to attract "homing pigeons" and "lost or shy birds" - in fact all members of the flock. Several men who have never been back to a class reunion have already signified their intention of returning. To miss this gathering is to miss one of the biggest events which we have ever had. So to all who are still undecided may we suggest you forward that reservation form, which you tucked away in your desk last month, and plan to be in Hanover bright and early Monday morning, June 17.

Howard and Helen Bartlett flew on January 26 to Pilani, India for a four months' assignment at Birla College of Engineering. The task involves the integration of the School of Engineering and the School of Arts and the creation of some programs of study which have not been available such as chemical engineering and metallurgy. Pilani is one hundred dusty miles from New Delhi where my good wife and I will be for a week in late April. The Bartletts plan to drive this distance for a '23 reunion with the Bixbys. Howard has a sabbatical leave coming up next fall which he richly deserves after 30 years as head of the English and History Departments. He will resume his duties at M.I.T. in February and plans to retire in June 1966. Leon and Mary Sargent had a going away party for the Bartletts.

Ed Grevatt plans to make the 40th. Dick's (Edith's) 40th Smith reunion starts on May 30 so there is no conflict this time.

Don Crawford graduated from the University of Buffalo Law School in 1926. He practiced law in Buffalo and then became connected with the Western Savings Bank of Buffalo where he heads up the Mortgage department.

Lou Grover our Providence, R.I., Savings banker says he is still unmarried and not sorry - "chances of marrying get slimmer by the day." Lou is editor of the Providence Rotarian published by the Rotary Club of Providence. He is a past president of this club which has a membership of 233. In three successive issues last October Lou described a cruise on a friend's yacht which nearly landed him in the In Memoriam section of this MAGAZINE. Kindly refer to IrishFlanigan's Skiddoo for details.

Under the headline "He Tears Down His Granddad's Buildings" in the December 16, 1962 issue of the Chicago American we read the story of Sum Sollitt's widespread construction and engineering projects. The company was founded in Chicago's infancy in 1838 by Sum's grandfather who constructed the original Palmer House in 1859-60. The company ranked among the top ten building construction companies in the nation. The Sollitt Company has long been active in the Caribbean and is now building a lubricating plant in Rotterdam. It has done engineering work in Egypt and Trinidad. It is now engaged in building 8-10,000 homes, plus three churches, a community center, a golf club, and a marina in Gulf Harbors, 30 miles north of Tampa, in Florida. The Bill Kimballs recently moved into their new home in Gulf Harbors. Bill is a very active and busy vice president of this New Port Richey project. Sum says he has actually torn down several of his grandfather's, his father's and his own buildings - to rebuild on the same site.

The Hollis Riddles celebrated their wedding anniversary twice last year. It came about this way. They celebrated in Tokyo then flew across the international date line, gained a day and celebrated the same date in Anchorage, Alaska.

Frank Damon, in addition to his activities in the Bank of America's branch at Coronado, Calif., is treasurer of the Coronado Men's golf club - with 300 members strong.
