Over 8000 children turned out for JimBreeden's Boston Freedom Schools on Feb. 26. I taught a class of fifth graders at St. John's Episcopal Church in Roxbury. Students came from the suburbs by buses as well as from the heart of Boston and Roxbury. We taught children about the meaning of freedom and told them of important negroes in American history. The day closed with songs and a prayer, after which every child in the thirty-seven special schools received a diploma carrying the signatures of Jim Breeden and Noel Day '54.
