We hope everyone had a most pleasant summer. I know that my family and I did in that we attended the second annual Dartmouth Alumni College, which we most heartily recommend for all. The College has gone out of its way to plan a most entertaining and enlightening two weeks for alumni and their families, including young children.
On Sunday, June 27, 1965, great numbers of humanity swarmed over Hugh Kenworthy's ('41) farm at Chester Springs, Pa., for our annual picnic. Perfect weather enabled us to enjoy swimming, hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks and to watch the Class of 1951 get slaughtered in two volleyball games by assorted younger and older alumni. A rock and roll band performed all during the afternoon which fascinated the children and gave the picnic a carnival atmosphere.
Our softball team, under the management of Art Judson '52, had an average season but found that our best two games were against the two teams that played for the championship. We beat the runner-up, Yale, 5-3 and lost to the champion, Princeton, with two outs in the last inning, 2-1. JoeKeener '52 pitched the last half of the season admirably.
On Sunday, August 29, 1965, approximately 20 members of the Class of 1969 and their parents attended a reception at the home of Dr. John Wolf '27, to talk informally with Scott Palmer '59, assistant Dean of Freshmen. Fine weather made for a most pleasant day.
Coming events will include a Dartmouth Night Celebration at our headquarters on Friday night, October 8, 1965. We will be receiving live the radio broadcast from the College in Hanover of the festivities, and in addition, films of the 1964 world championship NFL football game between the Baltimore Colts and the Cleveland Browns will be shown. Watch the Club Newsletter for further details.
If you are in Philadelphia on Mondays, please join us for lunch at 12:00 noon at the Poor Richard Club. You will always find a most genial group, together with good food.
