Evan Connell's recent literary endeavors were reviewed in the March 13 edition of the Saturday Evening Post, in conjunction with the publishing of his story, "St. Augustine's Pigeon." A collection of his recent short stories, "At the Crossroads," will be published by Simon and Schuster this spring. Two other stories of this collection, "The Suicide" and "Leon and Bebert," were published last year in the Saturday Evening Post. Evan is living in San Francisco where he is editor of the literary magazine, "Contact."

Ludwig Schaefer, associate professor of history of Carnegie Institute of Technology, is also keeping '45 in the publishing fore as editor of "Challenges of History," a collection of historical problem studies to be published this spring by Charles Scribner.

Gran Beals, now sporting a retired classification after his USN, reports that he has made a "wonderful transition from military to civilian life ... as a design engineer for the Stanwick Corp." in the Washington, D. C., area. Ed Davin, also in the Washington area, is chief of the lunar science branch in the manned space science program - "responsible for the Apollo science program ... somewhat overwhelming."

Historian, teacher, and author Dick Welch, Associate Professor of History and Chairman of the International Affairs Program at Lafayette College, had a new book published last month. The book, Theodore Sedgwick, Federalist: A Political Portrait, brought out by Wesleyan University Press, is "the first modern study of a key New England politician who, in the opinion of the author and other scholars, personified New England Federalism," according to a news release by the Press. The book will be reviewed in a future issue of this MAGAZINE.

HERE AND THERE Jim Wilson, associate professor of music at Douglass College, the women's division of Rutgers University, recently presented a piano concert at Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa. ... John McCauley, recently moved to Chicago with DuPont, reports working with Harvey Turnure.... John Leggat was elected trustee of the Central Savings Bank of Lowell, Mass. John is still a member of the School Committee of his home town of Westford, Mass. ... Bill Comins stays busy traveling through the west for the First National Bank of Phoenix, Ariz., and asks anyone in the area to contact him.... Donn Tryon, assistant manager of the Springfield, Mass., office of the brokerage firm, Paine, Webber, Jackson and Curtis, recently gave a lecture, "The Great Society and the Market" at the Western New England College Evening Division. ... Anita and Gene Wilkin announce the birth of a son, William Alexander, their fourth child. ... Fred Berthold reports from Hanover of buying "an old house that's keeping us broke and busy," returning to full time teaching and "finding the students (most of them) quite good."
