Once again it is spring and the fruits of your class officers efforts are about to be rewarded with a lovely weekend in Hanover at the Class Officers meeting. This is always an enjoyable and stimulating experience with a varied program presented which touches on a few of the different areas of college activity. During the meetings, ideas are discussed which might help to strengthen class organizations. Lastly, it is fun to be with friends from our own class and others each year in Hanover.
For the third year, George Woods is engaged in the political wars as an incumbent member of the board of Selectmen of Franklin, Mass. George and his two colleagues are being challenged for one of the three positions by a fourth candidate. Hope you make it again this time, George. He and Mary have six children now. George is in business with his father at the Dartmouth Company, manufacturers of fireplace equipment.
Among our classmates on the forefront of our national defense is Captain Jere Poole. Jere is a member of the Strategic Air Command, stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S. D., which fired the first Minuteman missile from an operational site within the interior of the U. S.
Jere's division fired the unarmed missile so that it impacted two miles from the launch site as a practice launch to give the combat crewmen experience in exercising launch systems in an operational environment. Previous missile firings have been from test ranges. Jere and Dee have a daughter, Amy.
Paul Liscord joined The Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, Conn., after graduation as an actuarial student and he's been traveling upward ever since. In 1955 he became an assistant actuary, in 1959 an associate actuary, and in 1962 actuary. Now Travelers announces that Paul has been promoted to second vice president and actuary in the casualty-fire actuarial department. A Hartford native, Paul lives in nearby Windsor with Helen and their four children.
In my last report, I incorrectly reported Bobo and Barbara Russell had moved to a new home. Rather than move, the Russells are in the process of building a substantial addition to their existing home. Bobo reports that his leg is fine now, but the Russell bones are still brittle as his oldest son, F.L.,. managed to break his leg skiing this winter. Didn't the Russells ever hear of the Virgin Islands?
I received notice that Bill and Enid Burke moved into a larger house in West' Springfield as their four children are getting to the age they need a little more room, especially son Stuart, who is now almost twelve. Bill is still a chemist with the plastics division of Monsanto.
The other day I received a note from Al McAllister. His family has also been kept busy this spring as they too moved to another house.
After living in Honolulu for several years, Miles Richardson, or, his wife, and daughter Cynthia moved from Oahu to the island of Maui. He is operations manager for American Factors Ltd., a large diversified holding company in Hawaii whose interests are primarily in sugar and real estate in the island.
This sounds like very enjoyable living in a perfect year-round climate.
One of the most successful mutual fund agents in Florida is Dick Russell who just moved to Palm Beach, Fla., from across the lake in West Palm Beach. Dick is resident manager of the King Merritt Co. in Palm Beach.
Another whose growing family required the purchase of another house is HuckNewberry. Huck is a successful lawyer in Fort Worth. He and Isabelle have two daughters, nine and seven and Oliver P. Ill is now six and a half.
In concluding I would like again make my annual summer request for you to take a minute and drop me a note letting me know what is going on in your life these days. Have a good summer.
