Well, it certainly has been a bit more hectic around our house than usual this week, as something different for us, a little girl, arrived on April' 4 in the Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco. As the years go by I'm sure that Andrea Lynn Van Raalte will find herself in an enviable position with three older brothers, John, Peter, and Tom. Anyway, let's hope she uses discretion and picks boys educated in Hanover, N.H.

Our class this month finds itself in the unusual position at this late stage in life of obtaining an enthusiastic new member. So let's all welcome Vincent Edmunds as a '48. Vince had been a member of the class of 1945, having entered during the war, but as he would have graduated in 1948 requested affiliation with us. Vince adds to our list of bachelors and lives on Staten Island in New York. Since graduation he has been with Radio Corporation of America, and at present he is in charge of the consumer products regional service office on Park Avenue in New York City.

I just received a notice that John Alden was now living in West End, N.J., after having lived for many years in Pelham, N. Y. Last time I heard John was writing for the newspapers in Westchester, so how about informing me of your present activities, John.

Gil and Sissy Shattuck have just bought a house in Woodbridge, Conn., to give their growing family a little more room. Gil is doing a very able job as manager of cost accounting for the Warner Slimwear division of Warner Bros. Co. This company makes women's undergarments and also the famous Hathaway shirts among other things.

It was interesting to hear of the recent change made by Fran Hummel from the Bassick Co. in Bridgeport to the Stanley Hardware division of the Stanley Works in New Britain, Conn. Fran is the marketing manager of the division. He and Gertrude and the three boys plan to move to the New Britain area very shortly.

Recently the Reed Rolled Thread Die Co., a subsidiary of the Union Twist Drill Co. in Holden, Mass., promoted Al Cassin to be in charge of sales in the company's new sales territory of North and South Carolina. Al and Charlotte will live in Charlotte, N.C. Al has been representing his company in eastern New England.

Effective March 1, Pete Foster moved up to the job of general accounting personnel supervisor at the Southern New England Telephone Co. headquarters in New Haven. Pete has been with the company since graduation.

Dave Walsh is now working as a field representative for CARE in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He formerly was with an insurance company in the Philippines. Dave and Cynthia have two daughters and a son.

Once again now that the Alumni Fund campaign is more than half way completed, I want to urge all of you to send in now as much as you can. Bob Tracy, our head class agent, is working very hard to have each of you give just a little more than last year so that we can maintain our increased objective. Don't disappoint Bob or the class. As Pres. Dickey said at the class agents' dinner here in New York last week, this is one of the truly great years in Dartmouth history in every respect, so let's make it the same kind of year in '48 giving.

For several years Paul Zappert has been in the Media Department of a well-known advertising agency. He recently became Assistant Media Director for Doremus & Co., in downtown New York, which specializes in financial advertising.

See you next month.
