The Kiewit-Princeton Game Weekend, October 7 and 8, was an extraordinary convocation for '22. The Class delighted in honoring Peter and Evelyn Kiewit, adding John and Jean Kemeny to its fellowship. and seeing Dartmouth domesticate the Tiger. Aside from some June reunions, it was '22's largest gathering. Somewhat more than 140 members of the Class enjoyed the festivities. Some came from afar, such as BuckPerry from Los Angeles and Spic Saunders from St. Croix, Virgin Islands. And they all left Hanover with increased pride in '22 and the College.

The Class family honored Peter and Evelyn at the Friday evening dinner in Alumni Hall. Attended by all able to get to Hanover in time, it was '22's most distinguished assembly. Other guests included such esteemed friends as President Dickey, Ort Hicks '21, John Meek '33, George Colton '35, Nick Sandoe '45, Mike McGean '49 and Dick Olmsted '32.

As toastmaster, Class chairman Bill Bullen directed deftly and tersely. On behalf of the Class, he justly thanked Ike Miller who single-handedly had initiated the concept of the occasion and carried it through so successfully. With unanimous consent of '22's Executive Committee, Bill then had the rare privilege of welcoming Professor John G. Kemeny into the Class. John aptly expressed his pleasure in becoming a classmate to all Twoters. There is much more to be said in due time about our distinguished new classmate, but for the present we gladly join in saying to John and Jean, "Welcome aboard and delighted to have you with us."

President Dickey concluded a felicitous talk with his citation of the 1960 Commencement when the College awarded its honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Peter Kiewit. That citation definitely merits repetition here and now:

"Peter Kiewit '22, Contractor; President of Peter Kiewit Sons Company - Builder and tunneler to the world, when in some distant future age an archaeologist from outer space is mystified as to how the earth got to looking like a well-gnawed Swiss cheese, you, sir, will be the mighty mouse behind his puzzlement. For fifty years, first as water boy and long since as president of your company, you have been a builder in the best sense of that fine, old word. You began where all building begins, with yourself, and the proof of how well that job was done is written in the confidence you command in your home community of Omaha, in your far-flung enterprises, in your industry, and throughout the world wherever there is need for a man to be counted on to produce what is required, be it a school, an atomic plant costing a billion, two hundred million dollars or, as now looms likely, that long-postponed project of the ages, a tunnel beneath the English Channel. Reducer of miracles to matter of fact and a teacher by example that a man does what he is, you are an alumnus who serving both the means and the ends of education merits your College's confidence as Doctor of Laws."

Peter replying for Evelyn and himself thanked the Class for its hospitality and expressed their pleasure at being back in Hanover with so many classmates. And the Class can only say, "Thanks most sincerely for what you have done for Dartmouth."

The clan then toured the Kiewit Computation center which will be formally dedicated in early December. In the adjoining Filene Auditorium, John Kemeny then lucidly explained the purposes and potentialities of the computer. Suffice it to say here that computer knowledge will be as necessary to the educated man of tomorrow as reading skill is to our generation. Thanks to classmates Peter Kiewit and John Kemeny, '22 now has "an address" — "Go 1922" — on the present and on the larger new computer being installed. And crowd all you want, boys and girls; you won't have to wait long for your turn because the new "monster" can handle several hundred conversations simultaneously.

A brilliant foliage Saturday included luncheon in Alumni Hall for '19, '22, and '42, the game, and post-game festivities. At the game, '22 as a 1967 reuning class had seats on the 45-yard line. True to the computer's prediction, Dartmouth convincingly won the game, but for the first five minutes it looked as though we were going to give the game and the computer to Princeton.

Saturday evening many of the clan dined, sang, and danced at the Mt. Ascutney Ski Lodge. Altogether the weekend was '22 at its best and that says all there is to say.

The list of those present at some or all the activities is so long it would never be published except for two reasons. First, '22 is on the eve of its 45th reunion next June and, secondly, the occasion of the Kiewit Weekend was a distinctive event for the Class and the College. So, despite slipping bifocals and weak hearing aids, the following or reasonable facsimiles thereof were seen, heard, or suspected to be on the scene:
