Eddie Johnson has had a session at the hospital involving two operations. It is nice to be able to report that his recovery has been a good one. Eddie's place of business is the East River Savings Bank where he has to do with mortgage appraisals.
Announcement was made in November of the engagement of Miss Nancy Allard to Richard S. Lane, son of Ed Lane. After a hitch in the Army Air Force, Richard attended Lafayette College and presently is studying at the Boston Institute of Business Administra- tion.
Bob Hight, for many years with the Chevrolet Division of General Motors Corporation, has gone out on his own with the Chevrolet franchise in Norwood, Mass. Organized last April, R. E. Hight Chevrolet, Inc. has operated in temporary quarters until recently when the company took occupancy of its new building on the Boston-Providence highway. On December 5, Louise Levis and Geoffrey Smith Jr. were married at St. Paul's Church in Philadelphia. Louise is the daughter of FredLevis.
The meeting of an applicant with a small committee of local alumni is one step in the Selective Process employed at Dartmouth. It is felt by the Director of Admissions that the Interviewing Committees perform an impor- tant service and that their members are mak- ing a real contribution to the College. It is at this time.of year that most of the interviewing takes place so it seems fitting to give recognition here to those in our class whom I know to be participating in this time-consuming chore. Killie Kilmarx is a regional chairman which means he is coordinator for the committees in his region with the responsibility of securing chairmen for the committees. SterryWaterman, Walt Sands, Wes Nutten, ChickBusher, Chuck Canfield, Chris Suttmeier,Andy Marshall and Jim Maze are committee chairmen whose duties are to staff the committees, arrange the interviews and prepare reports on the interviews. Doubtless there are others of our class serving actively on committees under these and other chairmen and they, too, are rendering a real service.
By no means are we over the hump yet, but it does begin to look as though the 25th Year Book may become a reality in 1949. CarrollDwight reports a slight flurry of checks that he and I know have come in directly as the result of Andy Marshall's renewed efforts. Andy and Cec Goldbeck have put much time and thought on the project. Such a book is bound to be of lasting interest to all of us. Aren't those good reasons why you should send $10 to Carroll now if you are one who has not subscribed already? Hurry so the book can go to press!
This issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE is devoted pretty largely to the annual Alumni Fund report. The list of contributors from our class follows these notes. It should be longer. The participation is not what it should be and it is hard to understand why. On the other hand, in terms of the dollar objective our 1948 Alumni Fund workers did a Herculean task under the leadership of Stan Miner. On that score our class attained a real place in the sun and there is every reason to believe it can be retained and even bettered. If hoping and planning and working will do it, Stan and his boys will keep 1922 up front.
Fund Contributors for 1948 223 Gifts (Participation Index 72). Total gifts: $11,352.87 (120% of objective). STANLEY P. MINER, Class Agent.
