Amazing how fast the future rushes in - reunions for example, just a few days ago our big rendezvous in Hanover was months away and so soon it's upon us. Reports have it that the turn-out for the 61's is tremendous and that the list of entertainment and activities should rival Green Key our senior year.
Here is a special event. ... ARTISTS of '61: There will be an exhibition of painting, sculpture, industrial design, etc., open to all the artists (full or part time) from the Classes of '60, '61, and '62. If you are interested in having your creations on display for that weekend, write or contact Gene Kohn, c/o Grey Advertising Inc., 777 3rd Ave., NYC immediately. Although Gene is a '60 he is acceptably polite and will handle your requests (or supply further details) with about as much efficiency as can be expected. Seriously, I know there are more '61 artists besides Foster, Holbrook, and Bailey so get cracking and let Mr. Kohn know of your desires.
Jeff Conn who, as you recall, was forced to use his wife's flowery stationery until recently, has manifested his strengthening financial position by writing on nothing but fine quality bond. Jeff and the Mrs. are fine as they while away their time in Flushing, N. Y., where Jeff is a CPA. It seems that yet another of our "All American Bachelors" is about to resign his membership in that once austere brotherhood. The gentleman in question is Elliott Weiss who can no longer resist the entreaties of a young lady named Wendy who holds as much charm over Elliott as her namesake did over Peter Pan.
Yet another merger is planned - seems Jungle Jim Nova finds himself incapable of going on alone and is gonna take on a partner, Miss Gail Ross of Washington, D. C Jim is with General Motors in NYC. MortvLynn, now a doctor with the Public Health Service, is engaged to Miss Susan Zeller of West Orange, N. J. More entries in the Everybodies Doin' It Department - Jay Torok and Miss Carolyn Boyan of Schenectadv were married on February 19. Jay is with Owens-Illinois in Toledo. Don Shropshire ended his gay bachelor life forever on January 8 when he did the ring thing with Miss Jeanne Marie Mauser of Long Island following the extravaganza wherein Don was kept m line by Dick Field, Phil Peters, and John Barnes. Don and the bride slipped off to Jamaica for their 'moon (assume Dick Phil, and John did not go)... but they were pretty close friends so I won't know for sure till Don (or Jeanne-Marie) fill us in with the full details.
John Edwards, who earned his D. D. S. from the University of Pennsylvania, is now on a tour of duty with the Army and stationed in Dong Ba Thin, Vietnam, where he is treating facial wounds. John will complete his Army service in June and will move his wife Marilyn and two children, John and Terri Lynne, to Chapel Hill, where he will begin study toward a specialty m orthodontics and a Ph.D. in biochemistry at the University of North Carolina.
Now then there are some humorous rumors around that young Chip Serrell is contemplating marriage. Any of you who know Chip recognize the preposterous nature of these stories. These humorous reports (placed in the paper by such types as Larry Holden, Ken Kolb, Jim McElhinney and particularly - Wild William Miller - Inventor of Two Man (?) Body Surfing) have indicated that Chip is engaged - "engaged" that s really choice - to a young lady named Diana Gilbert. The picture in the paper reveals Diana as being exceedingly attractive and it pains me to realize that she has such a disappointment in store when Chip tells her that he is a confirmed single swinger - wait a minute, the phone. ... That was Chip tells himself and all the stories are true - the engagement is official and Diana and Chip are indeed betrothed - it isn't just a sham produced by the Public Relations firm of Holden, Kolb, McElhinney, and Miller ... will wonders never cease.
Now for a fast look into the vast and meaty tome of "Who's Where"... NeilKarlin a doctor in NYC, Larry Jakuhsen is a lieutenant in the Army in North Carolina, Bruce Callahan is with Metropolitan Life in Denver, Al Overton is working at the state hospital in Atascadero, Calif., TonyOestreicher is an Ad biggie with McCann- Erickson in Chicago, Bill Mazeine is in banking in East Longmeadow, Mass., and finally Art Latimer is back in Darien living it up as an "1" (that's Alumni Office for lawyer).
Ernie Goff has just completed a long tour of duty with the Navy and is now at Duke Law School in Durham - any of you guys get into trouble with the law in N. C. - call Ernie (no collect calls please).
Faithful correspondent Bill' Blue has delivered his semi-annual report, this time from the West Coast. Bill himself is out of the Navy and into UCLA Business School. He is engaged to Miss Cynthia Holmes of Oakland with a June wedding in the offing. Larry Gleason's still at UCLA getting his Ph. D. Bob Jennings is there going for his M. B. A. and Dick Marrone (reported to be in Sweden) is in Sweden (!) coaching baskethall along with studying towards his Ph.D. Rumor has it that Dick may be coaching the Swedish Olympic Basketball Team!!
Henry Gerfen has been appointed an account executive at the New York City advertising firm of Warren, Muller, Dolobowsky, Inc. He was formerly in product management at General Foods Corporation and a sales representative for Scott Paper Company. Gerf, who also holds an M.B.A. degree from the Amos Tuck School, currently lives out in Chappaqua, N. Y. Final News Flash - Tony Wight has a zippy N. Y. address - Tony is working in the very heart of the Lexington Avenue advertising area in .. . are you ready for this. . . advertising!! I don't know what agency, but I'm sure Tony will employ the resources of his Media Section and lemme know.
The sun is sinking in the West with the gentle sound of an oil drum being dropped in a swamp.
