Will try to crowd in a number of items this month without neglecting any of you good '27ers who have taken the time to forward the good work. Sam Wormser and Alyce are back from Europe with Sam in good shape to lead the '27 race in this year's Fund. They had a week of rest and sun in Madeira followed by more sun, good food, and golf in Southern Spain. Says Sam, "You wouldn't believe how economical Spain is, you can't live at home at their rates."

Bob Stevens back from Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela on a trip for G.M. says those countries with some political stability could really take off economically. His trip was marred by Peg's illness in Mexico; had to leave her in Mexico City, picking her up on the way home. Bob has a doctor friend who runs a very fine clinic and took good care of Peg. The problem of checking during the trip, Bob says, was amazingly difficult — no phone connections between countries.

By the time you read this, April 27 will have come and gone, but I promise full details next month on '27's New York dinner and what Gus Cummings had to say. Incidentally, to fill in what little time he has left — see that he was elected to the board of the Maryland National Bank.

News received that Fred Carver's son, Douglas, was married in February to Miss Susan Carter Hall, in Lyme, N. H.

Many of you have seen the Guide to Rare Books Department published by the Friends of the Dartmouth Library in honor of Herb West '22 on his retirement. Among the many '27ers who were inspired by Herb in the field of literature and responded with contributions to the Rare Books Department are Vic Reynolds with a Willa Cather collection and a 2,000-volume Don Quixote collection presented by Fred Page (and I thought his passion was Model A Fords). Vic Reynolds also gave a collection of Elizabeth Madox Roberts as well as other items. Many have contributed to this more than impressive collection which resulted from Herb West's inspiration and leadership. A review of the guide is necessary to appreciate the full scope and priceless nature of this library.

Roy Blanchard brags loudly and with justification on twin granddaughters presented him by Betsy and Curt Blanchard. To quote Roy, " 'How'd you do it, son?' 'We try harder.' How about that, Leon C. Greenbaum?"

Jim Murray with Federal Trade Commission in Washington will miss Hanover Fall Reunion since business and vacation will send him to Europe for September and October.

Paul Hannah's law firm has expanded again and is now Gadsby, Maguire, Hannah and Merrigan with offices in Washington, Boston, Puerto Rico, and Washington Counsel for a Paris firm.

Bud Wesselman after a winter in Florida recouping from his heart attack is heading north. Says doctor won't decide on Bud's Hanover plans for a year or two. Hope he gives the green light for you, Bud.

The southern move to Florida has been joined by none other than Art (Get Princeton) Kelleher and Marion. On March 17 (Irishman's moving day) they are relocating to 2320 Mangrum Drive - Fairway Estates, Dunedin, Fla., near Clearwater. "It seems funny moving away from L. I. after all of these years. I started the Dartmouth Club of L. I. in the '30's with Hooker Horton, JohnShaw, Fritz Kortlucke, Rudy Preuss, etc. - now I'll have to start all over again and look around for playmates. Anyone in area look me up."

Gordon Smitty Smith sends a note with shaky handwriting due to a virus attack. No good for an artist, hope all is back to normal. Smitty has a daughter in Stamford married to an architect, Dick Kaeyer, and their other daughter, Liz Hunt, just moved with Smitty's two grandchildren into "The Assembly House," an historic old Salem House, not too far from Smitty in Marble head.

George Friede, our class linguist, who says he hated languages in Hanover, "Having previously founded and been president of luncheon clubs (both still going strong) in the French and Spanish languages, I have now founded and am president of the Deutscher Mittags Klub - 66 at first luncheon — but practicing law remains my vocation" in Portland, Ore.

George Provost says Pittsburgh has three active '27 bodies - Marsh McGough, Howie Mullin, and himself - all active and sound, but most importantly George says, "After several years of being alone (since my two children are about through college) have convinced a fine lady to share her life with me, we plan to be married March 12 - then I'll be able to list eight granchildren. Hope this keeps me in good standing." It sure does, George, and heartiest congratulations from the class and your secretary to the new Mr. and Mrs. Provost.

Coggy Broer and Sue as is the custom are off in St. Croix. Did you see the FredPages?

Chuck Field sends a fine letter reporting that his son, Fred, and Chuck Carroll's boy, Mike are classmates at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa. Two daughters, both married, have presented Chuck with two grandchildren. Chuck and his wife celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on March 19. the same day Chuck celebrates his 32nd year with Chicago Vitreous Corp. w here he 'is Director of Purchases and Traffic In January, Chuck was elected moderator of the Westchester Community Church which he and Jo helped organize in 1949, now 1100 members. Chuck's wife, Jo. was moderator 5 years ago.
