1958

As is customary, we begin this month's column with news of a social nature. First of all, congratulations are once again in order for Jo and Dave Moss, who, on March 12, added a son, Richard Paul, to the family tree. Dave is working in Detroit for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. The Mosses are living in Birmingham. Six days later, Phyllis and Mike Nevins announced the birth of their first son, Daniel, at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, N. Mex. Mike, a doctor and captain in the Air Force, will be returning to New York in July to continue his residency in internal medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

We also have two recent '58 weddings to report. On February 20, the former Miss Lois Yasler and Herb Isaacson were married in Danbury, Conn. Following Dartmouth, Herb was awarded a Reynolds Scholarship for study at the London School of Economics. He then obtained his law degree from Harvard Law School and is now with the Hartford law firm of Gilman and Marks. Herb and Lois are now living in Bloomfield. On March 5, the former Miss Joan A. Vroome and Dave Beattie exchanged marital vows in Upper Saddle River, N. J. Dave and Joan are living in New York, where Dave works for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

At least three engagements of '58's have been announced since we last went to press. Miss Betsy Adler and Geoff Picket plan to be married on June 20. Geoff, a partner in the New York law firm of Morway Picket and Geoffrey Picket, is a Harvard Law School graduate. Also scheduled for a June wedding are Miss Jane Levy and Walt Yusen. Walt is with Yusen Associates, Inc., manufacturers' agents in Cambridge, Mass. Ray Marcotte and Miss Charlotte Barkerding have soon to observe their nuptials. Ray is working on his master's degree at George Washington University in Washington, D. C.

Taking a look now at the business world, we find that Herb Tews has been named an assistant vice president of the Korhumel Steel and Aluminum Company in Evanston, Ill. The company is a division of National Steel Corporation. Herb, who joined the company in 1961, has been manager of the bar and tube department, the sheet steel products department and of sales administration. Herb and his family are living in Wilmette, Ill.

Chet McGuire, who was with Inland Steel Company until May of last year, has completed the requirements for his MBA at the University of Chicago, and now works for Real Estate Research Corporation, an economic consulting firm in Chicago.

Hoyt Goodrich was recently named security analyst in the investment department at the home office of Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford, Conn. He has been with the company since 1961. Hoyt and his family are living in Bloomfield. Also in Connecticut is Andy Thomas, who is now a senior financial control administrator with the Hamilton-Standard Division of United Aircraft Corporation in Windsor Locks. Andy and Nathalie and their two daughters, Emily and Adrienne, 5 and 3 respectively, have been living in Simsbury for the past four years, where Andy had been a con- tract administrator for Ensign-Bickford. He is presently first vice president of the Simsbury Chapter of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Also in the business news, Dr. GeorgeSpyrides has joined the research staff of E.I. du Pont's Central Research Department at the Experimental Station near Wilmington, Del. George attended Johns Hopkins University and the Rockefeller Institute, where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in biochemistry in 1963. Prior to joining du Pont, George was a biology instructor at Harvard. Hugh Fox is presently running a law publishing firm and lives in Orford, N. H.

Bryant Barnard, now performing general surgery as a Naval physician stationed at the Portsmouth, N. H., base, recently returned from a one-year stint aboard the "USS Independence," serving off Viet Nam. Bryant will be leaving New England in July to begin a four-year residency in urology at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York.
