Let's begin by announcing the arrival of two new members to '58 families. Richard Jonathan, first son and second child, was born to Barb and Al Freeman on Feb. 24. Al is presently a Senior Project Director at McCann-Marschalk Co. (advertising agency) in New York. The three previously mentioned Freemans plus daughter Joanne, now age 3, live in Little Neck, Long Island, N. Y. One day later, making it the 25th, in Lafayette Hills, Pa., Samuel Vanderpoel Gilbert IV made his initial appearance. Sam is the son of Phyllis and Van Gilbert.

We have one engagement to report this month. Planning a June wedding are Miss Kathy Haefelin and Jerry Green. Jerry is now an assistant comptroller of J. I. Case Co., at their headquarters in Racine, Wis.

Ohio State University has announced that Sterling Apthorp Jr. was awarded a B.S. degree in education on March 19.

Carey Rhoten, who is now vice-president of Hope Rubber Company in Fitchburg, Mass., and co-ordinator of their Fluid Power Division, was named co-chairman of the Industrial Division for the 1965 United Fund Appeal in the Fitchburg area. In 1963 and 1964, Carey held a similar position in the Commercial Division of the Appeal. In addition to this post, Carey serves on the boards of directors of the United Fund and the Fitchburg Chapter of the American Red Cross. Carey and Sara have one child.

Four '58's have made business headlines recently through their achievement of promotions. Bill Race has been made assistant cashier of the First National Bank of Chicago and assistant vice-president of First Capital Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the bank. Bill, who obtained his master's degree at the Graduate School of Business of Stanford University, has been with the bank for the past two years. The Races are living in suburban Northbrook. Also in the banking world, Dave ShepardJr. has been promoted to assistant investment officer at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco. Dave, who is in the portfolio management end of the business, has been with the bank since 1962. Dave and Beth, both avid weekend prune farmers, are living in Berkeley. Beth is presently working on her Ph.D. in Slavic literature at the University of California.

Dave Sharrock has been appointed Cincinnati division marketing manager for the William S. Merrell (pharmaceutical manufacturing) Company. The company is a division of Richardson-Merrell, Inc. Dave has been with the company since 1958 and has served as territory salesman, assistant hospital manager, and more recently as sales promotion manager. Bob Meyerson has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing for Albee Homes, a pre-cut home manufacturer in Niles, Ohio. Bob and Nancy have six children - Peter, Andy, Gigi, Matthew, Adam, and David, the latter two being twins.

The news from General Motors' Packard Electric Division plant in Warren, Ohio, is that a native-son junior executive has been pushed up another notch on the ladder. Gigi Principi has been promoted from departmental foreman in the division's plant No. 11 to general foreman. He joined Packard Electric in 1959 aftersix months of active duty as an Army officer. In 1961 he became a labor relations representative and two years later was promoted to departmental foreman. He and Anita, also from Warren, have two children, Janine and Kristine.

Let's take a brief look at several other '58's currently slaving in the business world. We have already touched on the subjects of bankers, but four members of the profession went unmentioned. Bob Lindig is a municipal bond underwriter and distributor with the Denver (Colo.) United States National Bank. Bob was previously with Commerce Trust Company in Kansas City, Mo. BobHickin has been with the First National Bank of Boston for the past four years. Bob and Phoebe are living in West Medway, Mass. Don Whitham is with Chase Manhattan in New York City. Don and Jean, who are living in South Norwalk, Conn., have two daughters. Sam Edson is a security analyst with Irving Trust Co., also in the big city.

Two former classmates are presently gainfully employed in the investment business. Jim Fenner is with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith in Houston, Texas. Jim and Carol have two girls and a boy. DickSchaedle is assistant treasurer of the Wall Street firm of Briggs, Schaedle &. Co., Inc.

Taking a look at '58's engaged in the accounting profession, we find that RogerBruttomesso is a Certified Public Accountant with Price Waterhouse and Co., in Hartford, Conn. Roger, who has been with the firm since graduation from Dartmouth, and Barb have three children. The Bruttomessos are living in Torrington. Andy Petersen is also with Price Waterhouse, located in Boston. Andy and Marion, daughter Kirsten and son Jeffrey live in Sudbury. ChuckNeff, who served a term with Ernst and Ernst in Cleveland, is now a general auditor for the White Motor Company, also in Cleveland. Chuck and Mary have three children.

Two '58's are employed by the titan of the data processing and computer field, International Business Machines. Butch Colla is a sales representative in Pasadena, Calif. Butch and Leslie have a son, Phillip, now 18 months. Don Maurer is a financial representative, working out of the Newark office. The Maurers are living in Summit, N. J.

Scanning the engineering field, GershAbraham is now a manager of quality control for Swingline, Inc. of Long Island City, New York. Gersh and Sally have a daughter, Marcelle. Chuck Jost is an electronic engineer for Sprague Electric Company in North Adams, Mass. Chuck is still footloose and fancy-free. Steve Dunn is an engineer with Ensign-Bickford Company in Simsbury, Conn. Steve and Dee have one son.

Occupied in various and sundry fields of business are the following '58's: Walt Fogarty is an assistant product manager with the Colgate-Palmolive Company in New York. Pete Herman is vice-president of the Charles Herman Contracting Company, also in New York. Dave Murphy works for the Paine Furniture Company in Boston. Clarke(Cack) Bittner is a marketing manager in the Emertron Antenna and Microwave Division of Litton Industries. Francis Harrington is a commercial pilot, with a home base of Worcester, Mass. John Edwards is a program assistant with CBS television in New York. Dick Roth is with Grey Advertising Agency, also in New York. Dick, who previously worked for General Foods in White Plains, is still single and living in the City. Bill Van Law is a group merchandiser for J. C. Penney Co. in Kirkwood, Mo. Bill and Judi have two children. Bob Taffe is a merchandising manager of the Lenthéric Divitis Industries in Chicago.

Bruce (Goose) Gemberling is now a sales representative for the Celanese Plastics Company in New York. Goose and Marylin, daughter Gayle and son Bill are living in Whippany, N. J. John Cherba is now in Racine, Wis., working as a staff member of the materials management division of J. I. Case. John and Lorraine have three children. Joe Jacquet is presently employed as a pricing analyst for Philco Corporation in Fort Washington, Pa. Joe and Judy have two sons. Glenn Wilde is now a supply-distribution analyst for Esso International, Inc. in New York. Glenn and Barb have a daughter, Cindy.
