JUNE 1966 RICHARD W. COUCH JR., PETER K. THOMSEN

We have lost one of the finest members of the class with the death of William Brewster Nickerson. The plane he was aboard crashed into the Gulf of Tonkin while returning from a flight over Vietnam. He died April 22. When I heard about it, the news affected me deeply as it did the rest of the campus. It made me stop and consider just what I was doing with my life. He was going to do a lot with his. I wish to express the condolences of the class to his parents and family. Bruce's mother, Mrs. Charles H. Carr, has set up a fund to buy books as prizes to selected graduating seniors; members of the class who wish to contribute to that fund can send a check marked for the Lt. William B. Nickerson Memorial runa to Crosby Hall.

I received a letter recently from BillBarnet, which I opened thinking he was going to announce his impending marriage or some such news, but instead it was an appeal for the Alumni Fund. From which I quote, "This letter is simply a genuine plea on my part to ask you to be counted in this year's drive. The amount one gives at this point in our careers is not as important, I believe, as the fact of having given something. Working for the college this year, I have seen first-hand the great needs that a good educational institution has and the problems it has in covering these needs. Every bit on our part will help.

It snowed here in Hanover to celebrate the last day of Green Key with a couple of more inches on Monday. The D ran a quote in their May 10 issue, If Winters here, can Spring be far behind? '

Bob Shirley and Pam Materne have announced their engagement and plan to be married in May. Pam, as you all know, is a graduate of Colby Jr. College. She is now working for American Airlines. Squirrel is working for the Owens-Illinois Co., Libbey Division in their Los Angeles office. Eric Oxboel was married last April 23 to the former Miss Cindy Schank. Perry Zirkel, a long lost '64, was the best man (Perry is graduating from Oswego State Teacters College this June). Roy Lewicki and BillGunn were ushers, while Lew Eisenberg,Herb McCord and I drank the champagne. Talking about weddings Herb McCord is planning one for June 18. Rumor has it he's going to have the Rockin' Royals at it, and you're all invited.

Dick Carey was married to the former Miss Nancy McLean last month in Portsmouth, N. H. Mrs. Carey is finishing up at the University of New Hampshire this June. Dick is now in the Navy serving aboard the "USS Navarro." They honeymooned in Long Beach, Calif. Pete Fine and Sara Ann Miller announced their engagement last month. The wedding will take place in Los Angeles, July 31. Pete is now pursuing a doctorate in French at Columbia University after receiving a Master's degree at Harvard. Sara is a graduate of UCLA.

I got a letter from Mike Moore the other day. He is now at Georgetown Law School. He was recently selected for the Georgetown Law Journal. Congratulations. He also works part-time for Senator Frank Church.

I received a wedding announcement from the parents of Miss Anne Sanborn who was married to Nick Rowe. For Boston roadtrippers they are now living at 471 Grove Street, Needham, Mass. Herb Goodrich and Miss Virginia Page became engaged in March. Herb is now attending Harvard Law School. Another engagement I learned of recently was Ed Kirch's to Miss Ellen Gardner. They will be married May 28, in Caldwell, N. J. Ed will get his M.B.A. this June from Rutgers Business School.

A more recent Miss Massachusetts than the one I once knew was captured by a '64 in April. Bob Reidy and Miss Kathleen Kenneally are going to be wed August 20 in Canton, Mass. Bob is in his third year of

medical school at Cornell University Medical School in New York City. We're going to be sending out post cards to all the members of the Class at the end of the summer in a blatant attempt to get news for this column. I hope you'll spend a few moments filling it out. Have a good summer.
