The Dartmouth Third Century Fund campaign was announced on September 28. The objective, $51 million and will reach its conclusion during the Bicentennial years, 1969- 70. All alumni and friends of Dartmouth are asked to participate. The annual Alumni Fund must be sustained at its present level during the capital campaign.
Bob Kenyon, our head class agent, informs me that Mrs. Sarah (Charles P.) Wood worth of New London, N. H., has taken over Mrs. Mildred (Joseph P.) McCann's place as assistant class agent for 1907 on the annual Alumni Fund drive. Mildred did a splendid service for several years with the widows.
It is very interesting to note that our oldest living classmate is Cliff Norris, 52 Circuit Drive, Cranston, R. I. 02905. He will be 89 years old on November 7, 1967. We hope that Cliff will have many more years of good health and happiness.
Mrs. Julius Dutton (Marion) writes that Julius has been seriously ill in the Portsmouth, N. H., Hospital and that he would love to hear from classmates. Kindly do that for time is running out on us all.
On Friday, September 22 Ethel and I drove to Farmington, New Sharon and Starks, Me., to see my relatives and BishopNiles went along with us to visit his folks at East Wilton and North Jay. We saw the Niles Memorial Library and the old Niles Homestead at North Jay. On Sunday we drove to Mt. Blue, Rangeley Lakes, Stratton to Eustis Ridge. The foliage was wonderful. On the way back to Farmington we stopped at Sugarloaf Ski Area. On Monday after enjoying the beautiful foliage in northwestern Maine and a splendid visit with our State of Maine folks we drove home.
Crick Crocker and Helena have spent the past summer at their South Strafford home and are now back in their Milton, Mass., residence. Fred Baldwin, our "Town Crier," has returned to Bradenton, Fla., and ArtWinslow and Elizabeth have returned home to Waterville, Me., after a summer at Owls Head, Rockland, Mass.
"The New Hampshire Audubon News" of September 1967 states that "A drive to raise $25,500 to develop the 43-acre Paradise Point Nature Center on Newfound Lake in Hebron, N. H., was launched recently at Pasquaney Lodge, the summer home of fudge and Mrs. John R. McLane. They were hosts to about thirty guests, including John Ripley Forbes, president of the Natural Science for Youth Foundation, who is special adviser to the Audubon Society of New Hampshire in the project to develop the area as a nature center." That's a splendid project, Judge.
On Saturday, September 30, Dartmouth 28, University of Massachusetts 10 at the new Alumni Field Stadium in Amherst, Mass. It was a windy day and the field was wet and slippery, but the Dartmouth Indians beat the Mass. Redmen. Your Secretary attended the game along with Bishop Niles and Philip Evans '17 as guests of Roger Brown '05 in his new Cadillac. The foliage was grand.
Classmates having birthdays in November are George H. Hoyt, 3; Clifford E. Norris, 7; and Arthur E. Winslow, 13.
