I realize that you folks will be reading these lines in mid-December, but as I sit to author these notes I'm still enjoying the elation of the victory over Harvard, which Linda and I witnessed just yesterday. I can't recall ever having seen two college football teams play a more rugged game, or put out more effort and second effort than the Indians and the Johnnies displayed Saturday. Harvard and Dartmouth men alike should be very proud of their teams - it was football and sportsmanship at its best.
The post game activities afforded us the opportunity to celebrate with some of our brethren. Mike and Mary Buckley made the scene from Ithaca, where Buck is at Cornell Law, and added much color to the festivities. Buck is still a good advertisement for Schaeffer.
We also imposed upon the hospitality of Bo and Joan Andersen at their Memorial Drive pad. Bo attends B.U. Law School and continues to coach the lightweight crews at Harvard. At Bo's we saw Jaan Lumi, who was brandishing his MBA from Columbia, and is now headed for Navy OCS, he hopes.
Among others we saw in and around Cambridge were Pete and Marcia Frederick up from N.Y.C., Dave Bush, Dick Reese, and Tom Bettman, all of whom are at Harvard Med School, Dick Horton, Larry Goldberger (Tufts Med), and Pete Sapione, who is back in Hanover finishing up. We ran into most of these Big Greeners in varying stages of sobriety at Briggs Cage.
On the non-athletic side of things: Tim McLaughlin and Miss Carroll Rockman (Univ. of Minn.) were wed in August in her hometown of Minneapolis. They are in New York while he learns the investment business at Smith, Barney & Company, and then they hope to be transferred back to Cleveland, Tim's old stomping ground.
Herb Boerstling took Miss Elizabeth Ellington as his bride on Sept. 3 in Braintree, Mass. Dick Corkey helped out with the ushing. The newlyweds are living in Cambridge while Herb finishes at Harvard Med, and Elizabeth completes her studies at Radcliffe.
Spook Miller has also fallen, to the bewitching charms of Miss Michele Clark. Michele is a Dickinson College grad and is now teaching, while Spook will graduate from Dickinson Law School in June.
Maumee, Ohio, was the scene of JimRamsey's marriage to Miss Kathryn Thomas on September 9. Jim teaches French at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N. H.
Ron Tegtmeier was also bitten by the love bug. He married Miss Faith Peters in Cambridge in late August. Faith is a graduate of Green Mountain and the N. Y. State University at New Paltz, and teaches art in the Belmont, Mass., school system. Ron is in his last year at Harvard Med. They are living in Cambridge.
Continuing down the primrose lane: John Ramage and Miss Jean Hunter (Ursinus '65, Yale M.A. '67) were wed on September 1 in Haddonfield, N. J. Both John and Jean are doctoral candidates at Yale; she in British history, and he in statistics. They live at 88 Cold Spring St., New Haven.
On Sept. 2 Andy Gundlach and Miss Adelaide Murphy were married in Summit, N. J. Andy's bride is a Wells College grad, and they're both in the insurance business, though with different outfits.
Bob Ellsworth and Miss Marilyn Winsor (Mary Hitchcock '66) returned to Hanover to tie their knot. Bob is a Dartmouth Med School grad, and is now at Harvard Med. Marilyn is a registered nurse on the staff of the Visiting Nurse Association in Boston.
The last wedding I'll include in this month's news is Weaver Games' to Miss Loellen English (Duke). The wedding, abounding in brass, was held in the Marine Corps Chapel at San Diego. Weaver's dad is an Army colonel and Loellen's father is a major general. They're living in Charlottesville, Va., where Weaver attends UVA Law School, and Loellen pursues her doctoral studies in physiology.
In other news, Charley Blaisdell is in his third year of Law School at Yale, and last year was the winner of the John F. Caskey Award for general excellence in the field of litigation.
Dave Graham is now with McCampbell Sales Division of Graniteville Company of N.Y.C., after a successful stint with Pep- peridge Farm. Dave and his family (1 wife; 1 daughter) live in South Norwalk, Conn.
I've also been in much contact wnnTucky Mays since his discharge from the Navy. Business is the future for Tuck, but whether it will take the form of grad school or Wall Street he's not sure yet. At present he's with Goldman, Sachs in NYC.
Dan Morley writes from London that he married Nancy Hamill in September, and is now studying the economics of poor countries and their development, with special reference to China, as well as taking an intensive course in Mandarin, at the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London.
I also bumped into Palmer C. D. Wooglin recently, and he is on a massive eating campaign so that he can qualify for seasonal work as a Salvation Army Santa Claus. Of the Harvard game Palmer could only say, "God lives, and he wears no. 15 for the Big Green."
Mike Buckley is reported to have swallowed the Great Pumpkin.
Hope the holiday season finds you and yours happy and healthy. Season's Greetings from the Mahoneys - may the bird of paradise nest in your Christmas tree or Chanukah bush.
Merry Christmas and New Year Blessings!
