To paraphrase Whoever-It-Was that said, in What's-Her-Name-In-Wonderland, it gets difficulter and difficulter to get enough news to fill the column space to which you'd all like to become accustomed. So you'll have to put up with more of that scintillating wit (Augh!) and fabrication to which you have become accustomed - more, even, than usual.
The facts this month are simple. We welcome one more illustrious "52" to the magic circle of young presidents, another to the exalted circle of vice presidents, and a few other select members of the class to similar posts of aggrandizement.
The new president is youthful (though somewhat thinner in the hairline) Jim Weidman who has been named President and General Manager of Hamilton Watch Company of Canada, Ltd. Jim has been Director of Public Relations for Hamilton, U.S., out of Lancaster, Pa. He joined the company in 1955 as a sales trainee after his three-year hitch with Uncle Sam's army. In 1957 he was assigned to the St. Louis Territory, in 1959 he was appointed assistant to the director of sales, and in 1960 named Director of Public Relations. Headquarters for Hamilton in Canada is Toronto, so I assume Jim and his family will be moving up there very shortly. And congratulations from all of us, Jim!
The newest V.P. is much closer to home. Lives right here in town, no less. It's RoyMegargel, who has been counsel for the Hewitt-Robins division of Litton Industries, Inc., and is now a vice president in addition. I also learned recently from his wife, Kate, that Roy just won some gigantic legal settlement for the company out in Chicago so I guess he's already earned a good hold on those new stripes. I hope you also earned a lot of money, Roy, to help pay for that new yacht I understand you laid hold of last summer.
The Ford Motor Company, out there in Michigan somewhere, just named one of our own to a high financial post. He's J.Cray Hausman who was elected assistant treasurer of that particular automaker. Cray was manager of the domestic profit analysis department of the Company's Finance Staff since October of 1965. He's been with the automaker since he was sprung from Tuck Thayer in 1953.
Now, I am also in receipt of a very kind and generous letter from Larry Markin, partner in Markin-Shaw Agency, Inc., purveyors of insurance out of Rochester, N. Y. Kindly because it's my blessing on you all who send me news. Generous because it's all about another classmate and his recent achievements.
Larry writes to inform us that HenryWilliams Jr. was recently elected to the Monroe (N. Y.) County Legislature. As you will recall, I last month reported Henry's election as partner in the distinguished law firm of Harris, Beach, Keating, Wilcox, Dale, and Linowitz, and the fact that he'd been nominated to run for County Legislature and now, Larry, bless 'im, has confirmed my prediction by reporting that Henry won! Thanks, Larry! Congratulations, Henry!
And another piece of good news from upper New York state. General, Electric,, out of Schenectady, has just announced the appointment of H. AlanRiegelman as Field Sales Manager for G.E.'s Closed Circuit Television Operation. The CCTV was recently established as a separate organization within the company's Visual Communications Product Department. Before establishment of this organization Alan was manager of G.E.'s Built-in Electronic Products Section in Utica, N. Y. Alan joined G.E. in 1954 as a field sales trainee.
It is a relief to get through the "Holidays" in one piece and somewhat a consolation for the bills still pending to look back on the notes received from old friends, particularly classmates, which only the Holiday Spirits could inspire. Got one from ol' BillMurphy (or I should say Gaye, his wife) in which was described an evening with the old Acer, Ralph Lynch. My name, I am told, was bandied about with a deal of profanity, but I guess I can forgive that, knowing the source. It is good to be thought of at all.
Also heard from Buck Lemnan who's enjoying, and prospering, in his first year out of the family business, and from EwingKen Calhoun who is wallowing in his first year of connubial bliss.
Also got my annual message from Francis Chisdes (which I also suspect was written by his better half, Carol) and was sorry to hear that they had experienced some grief over a prospective new home, but heartened to know that they had weathered it and found new strength in religion.
All-in-all '66 seems to have been a tempestuous one but also one of continuing opportunities for us all. May '67 be no worse for all of us and perhaps a little better for some of us. Till we meet again on these pages in the shank of the winter may I wish you all good luck and peace!
