The elapsed time between now (as I write) and now (as you read) is so long I hesitate to attempt any kind of a timely or seasonal greeting. Who knows where I'll be then—who knows where you'll be. But I guess I can be fairly sure you'll be reading around the time of Lincoln's or Washington's birthday, so here's wishing you an Advantageous Abe's or a Gratuitous George's whichever is nearer. (Oh, what a harried secretary won't contrive to fill out space and make his class appear newsworthy!)

All is not silence this month — far from it. Those items of news I have are certainly good ones — enough to give us all a nice twinge of pride.

Let's start off with a war whoop for Roy T. Abbott Jr. Those folks in downtown Manhattan at No. 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza have once more proven that my trust in their clear-eyed judgment is well-placed. I'm speaking of George Champion and those other fellows who run the Chase Manhattan Bank. They just made br'er Abbott a vice-president in the United States Department. Roy joined the bank fresh out of Tuck in 1953 and has moved steadily upward, becoming assistant treasurer in 1958 and assistant vice-president in 1961. Roy commutes across the Hudson every day from Short Hills, N. J., where he lives with his family.

From Scott Olin, friendly scribe of the '50's, comes a nice news item clipped from a Boston paper. It concerns classmate BobHolmes who's just been promoted to manager of the Boston branch of IBM. Bobby was formerly assistant district manager for New England so I guess he won't have to pack up and move.

One classmate has recently moved, though. He's Dick Hill who's recently moved to Wellesley, Mass., with his wife and three children. Dick is a pilot for Eastern Airlines and formerly lived in Simsbury, Conn. Dick is also a captain in the Air Force Reserve.

Another of our New England representatives made the news in Nashua, N. H. The Nashua paper tells us that Charles E.Clough, General Manager of Nashua Corporation's Coating Division, was elected vice-president of the Gummed Industries Association during the 1964 Annual Meeting at Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, West Va. Charlie lives in Nashua.

And yet another item from New England - from Hanover, even. Roger Eastman of that legendary town was recently elected president of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy Alumni Club of New Hampshire. Roger, as you know, is proprietor of Eastman's Drug Store on South Main.

I guess you could say this next item comes from New England, too, though it happened right under my nose here in Riverside, Conn., and I don't exactly think of myself as a New Englander. The event to which I allude in such roundabout fashion is the marriage of Robert Ramsey Morris to Mrs. Bourne Gafill Langley. Both Bob and his bride are players in the big ad game, he with McCann-Marschalk and she with Ogilvy, Benson & Mather. That should add up to a few sleepless nights one way or another.

Last item of interest comes not from New England but from nearby New York. In a recent news release about his brotherin-law we learn the whereabouts and what-abouts of Dave Blanpied, Dr. Dave Blanpied, that is. Having received his MA from Cornell and his doctorate from University of Michigan, Dave is now an assistant professor in the Cornell Agriculture College. When I knew him I don't think Dave could tell a bull from a cow which goes to show you what a wonderful rounding out you can get at graduate school.

Now you will notice that all these items had a distinctly Eastern locale which is not to be laid to any bias on the part of your faithful scribe (I'm still a corn-fed lowan, remember, and proud of it). But it does speak strongly of one of two things: Either you guys out there are resting on your laurels or press agentry has taken a turn for the worse west of the Appalachians. So once more I invite you to write if you get work or if you need work or hate work or whatever. You'll find a sympathetic eye.
