The football season is upon us, and we can thank early donors to the Third Century Fund for the much needed $375,000 addition to Memorial Stadium. Several members of our class are playing significant roles in this major $51 million drive, including Major Gifts Committee members George F.Jewett Jr. of California and Norman E. McCulloch Jr. of Rhode Island, and Dallas area chairman Calvin G. Bauer. Approximately $18½ million had been raised by the end of June.
The stadium's new capacity of about 21,500 is expected to be fully utilized for the Princeton game on October 12; it also will be used for the New Hampshire, Brown, and Columbia contests this year. I hope to see many of you there, and elsewhere during the 9-game schedule, which will see Coach Blackman's forces trying to overcome favored Yale and other strong teams such as Princeton and Cornell for the top position in the Ivy League.
