Art Keleher, "thanks on my 66th. I don't feel any older as yet. Enclosed photos (all of Art on golf course) show the hard life Marion and I live here. Still willing to show any retiring '27er what a great place this Florida is." Unfortunately, the photos of Art we can't reprintnot close enough to come out. So you camera bugssend me close-ups please.
Leon and Ethel Loeb send greetings and the news that they have retired, and are at their Welcome Farms in Frederick, Md., full-time.
Those of you who knew Twinx (Helen)Chabot will be saddened at the news of her death. Drop Al a note at Box 3099, Vero Beach, Fla.
Gus Cummings seems to generate more news from classmates in his indefatigable dues collecting than your secretary. Maybe I should put the touch on? Anyhow, Gus sends a note from Fen-Min-Tung"How is your keeping? Now everything in Hong Kong has returned to normality. The Stock Exchange recorded a new post-riot peak turnover yesterday. One newspaper front- line reads, 'Up, up go stocks,' but only the faces of brokers are beaming jubilantly. There are many people who seek to end their lives through different forms of suicide. I am now helping some friends organize a post secondary school. Best wishes."
Russ Weston writes Gus that four '27ers turned out for the Third Century Fund lunch at St. Pete Yacht Club and he had a nice visit with Art and Marion Keleher who are now living in Dunedin, Fla., and playing much golf.
Roy Flannery writes Gus, "Am still perking but bad correspondent. I retired in 1961 as president of The Boye Needle Company after 20 years as such. Travel a lot Jan. 16, 1969 on the 'Kungsholm for three months. Spend part of my time in New York where we keep a small apartment and dabble in shows now and then.
Dick Stowe sends m his dues ana payment for "1927's Pine Tree 40th." This should bring Gus a little closer to closing the books on that project.
Jack Andrews - "Things are progressing nicely at Steamboat Springs, Colo. We finally got all the wiring and plumbing completed at our daughter's and son-in-laws cabin Thanksgiving weekend and I've now finished all the outside carpentry and the kitchen cabinets. The skiing is wonderful at Mt. Werner - nice deep fluffy powder snow - so all is not work. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year." Jack, this sounds like a healthy life. When you get back East, let me know your rates - carpenters are awfully hard to find. ,
I failed to report to you the following note from Van Wie Ingham: "Marion, Sandy '60 and I went to Hanover to see son and brother John '64 get his sheepskin after 3½ years in the Army. His wife and son Christopher Van Wie (our first and only grandchild so far) were on hand, although Christopher didn't attend the ceremony I guess he'd been tipped off about the valedictory address, maybe? I was delighted to see the '27 new Pine while watching the Saturday doings at the Bema.".
All of which reminds me that Bob (PineTree) Stevens and Peggy, are having a great time watching,, the remodelling of their old (circa 1800) house in Dorset, Vt. Peggy says they snowshoe and she has never seen Bob looking any better. Maybe there is something to this retirement lite whether it be Vermont or Florida.
Les Eaton —"I retired on my birthday in 1967 after 32 years with the New Hampshire Employment Security Dept. We have since been to Florida and Nova Scotia ana God willing, we hope to see more of our great country. Get to Hanover once in a while but need a compass to find my way around." '
Your President, Howie, sends postcards from Brussels, Belgium with the cryptic note "all in the name of higher education" - I don't get it, do you?
Now the big newsDon McCall reports that Wednesday, April 9, New York Dartmouth Club, Commodore Hotel, will be the annual '27 dinner. Doane Arnold, your secretary for 25 years, will be honored on this occasion, so start laying your plans to head New York way about then. (I write this the day after Christmas with the temperature at 12°, so thoughts of April are not unpleasant.)
