Another fall means a lot of changes for our classmates. Mobility is still one of '65's most obvious traits, though many of us are beginning to establish occupational and residential roots. The newsmakers are those on the move, however, as new jobs, new homes, new brides, and new babies are all I hear about. It would be good to hear from each of you, even if your "news" is old stuff to you. It has been difficult to keep up with all of the class, and I'm sure that your friends would welcome hearing from you through this column.
Some '65's took on new responsibilities via the marriage route during the summer months:
Big John Matzke, a budding young educator in Lyme, N. H„ took Lyn Pilisbury as his bride in early June.
In Swampscott, Mass., Harry Margolin and Judith Goldberg (Simmons) were wed. He has just finished work on his M.A. in law at NYU, having earned his LL.B. at Harvard in 1968. They're living in New York City.
George Poland and Nancy Crosby were married at another June ceremony in Boston. Nancy is an alumna of Russell Sage. George is with the Massachusetts State Welfare Commission. Home is Stoneham, Mass.
Tom Mitchell and Orasa Metmowlee became man and wife this summer also. Orasa's home is in Thailand, but she is keeping house for Tom in Hanover. She's also attending Colby J. C. while he pursues his studies at Dartmouth Med.
Tom Harnett, who became deputy district attorney in Los Angeles County last spring, became a groom on September 6 when he married Virginia Bunker. Their home is in Los Angeles.
Other couples who were scheduled to tie the knot over the summer, but for whom I have no confirmation are: Larry Lowic (a Ph.D. student in art at Yale) and Pamela Pachuk, a Boston fashion merchandiser. Russ Carson and Judith Mara of West Newton, Mass. David Tafe (recent recipient of an MAT degree from Harvard) and Christine Zlotnick (Colby College).
The number of '65's on the Exeter campus has disturbed Frank Bellizia, so he has signed on at Phillips Academy at Andover (just Andover to the layman) as a teacher of English and drama in the hope of tipping the scales.
Ken Carlisle has recently been named manager of the Carlisle-Allen Company's store in Painesville, Ohio. As the name would indicate Ren is with the family business, and he is the fifth generation to participate in the management of the company. He is also very active in civic affairs in Painesville.
Nashua, N. H., is now home base for the Jeff Davises. Recently discharged from the Army where he attained the rank of captain, he is now an eager and enthusiastic lawyer.
One of the most significant '65 feats of the summer was Wah Walsh's conquest of the Colorado River. He organized a raft trip down that mighty waterway and included Bill and Becky Duschatko and Bob and Laurie Swett '66 in his troupe. They stopped just long enough en route to their vulcanized vehicles to terrorize the sleepy burg of Las Vegas.
Tom Long received his I.D. from the Harvard Law School in June, and is now with the Los Angeles firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.
Charlie Strauss has hung it up with Procter and Gamble and has thrown his lot in with National Products, Playtex Division. He's living in Stamford, Conn., but hopes to move to New York soon.
The Continental Illinois National Bank has been Tom Miller's employer since his retirement from Uncle Sam's Army last winter. His title has also changed from captain to management assistant. He and wife Brigitte live in Clarendon Hills, Ill.
We ran into Punch and Betty Lochridge at the Dartmouth-UMass game in late September. They've just moved to their own home in Lexington, Mass. Punch is with a Boston management consultant firm.
Incidently, that opening tilt was evidence that Coach Blackman has produced another sound and explosive group of gridders. Against UMass it was three relative "un- knowns," Jim Macko, Tim Cooper, and Bill Pollock, who turned the tide. When the "knowns"—Chasey, Bowden, Short, etc-take over the 1970 edition of the Big Green should be even more exciting to watch and cheer. We'll hope to see you at a game this year.
