I wonder who will be the first to write me who of the ten whose birthdays were reported in the April issue is the oldest. The first correct answer wins a half gallon of first run Vermont maple syrup.
All in good fun I now repeat this offer giving you eight lads born in this month of May. You have until June 1 to tell me in 25 words or more who you think was born first.
The eight are: Myron Files of Northwood Ridge, N. H., Doc Kingsford of East Wakefield, N. H., Prof. Willard A. Kinne of Cincinnati, 0., Hugh Mackinnon of San Francisco, Calif., Ted Main of Cocoa Beach, Fla., your secretary who lives in Newport, Vt., Paul Smith of Clearwater, Fla., and John Warren of Wrentham, Mass.
Speaking of letters still to come I wonder what Paul Applin is doing in Jackson, Miss., John Burleigh in Bedford, N. H., Roseoe DeWitt in Dallas, Tex., Art Estep in Waynesburg, O., Gail Gardner in Prescott, Ariz., Scott Jones in Spokane, Wash., Jim Kehayas in Franklin, Mass., Voz Lyons in New York City.
It is only fair to warn you that soon I'll be sending collect telegrams to all who do not write.
Just as Penn Aborn in his class notes of March 1957 wondered if a change of Wag Green's address to the Fidelity Union Building in Dallas indicated retirement as president of the W. A. Green Co., so I in 1970 wondered if Wag's new address of Gin Lane in Southampton, N. Y., meant permanent change. It does as Wag confirms by letter reporting his own good health and the hope to hear from his classmates.
To share good news with you I've just phoned Redington Shores, Fla., for a chat with Charlie and Buff Batchelder. I found both in good spirits and the health of our longtime top flight treasurer very much better.
Nearer by I phoned Cris and Elmer Robinson in New London, N. H., and had cheerful reports from them. Elmer confessed that when he was class secretary he found writers' cramp a common affliction of all Dartmouth graduates but that letters written by their wives were always far more interesting (gentle hint).
Lest you forget you have a class reunion in Hanover due the weekend of May 15-17. Doubtless more detail will reach you but save the dates and be ready for a quick take-off.
It is sad to close these notes with word that we have bid farewell to two more classmates. Delayed report tells of the death of Nathan Allen Farwell on December 26, 1969 and of Dean Abbott Emerson on March 5, 1970. Reviews of their lives and their careers will appear in this or a subsequent issue.
