This is being written as December comes to an end and here at Portland, Me., we have had 55 inches of snow since the first week of the month. Our usual "winter" results in an average fall of 73 inches so either spring is almost here or, as the natives say, "it'll be a real doozie!"

By the time this goes to print February will be upon us and it will be time for the traditional greeting "Happy Ground Hog Day!" Local speculation is that the poor little fella won't even give it a try this year.

I have been asked to mention the First Annual Dartmouth Alumni Ski Weekend which will be held in Hanover on March 6 and 7. Lodging at the Hanover Inn Friday and Saturday nights, dinner both evenings and two days of skiing at the Skiway will be provided for an all-inclusive price of $80 per couple. They hope to have some races and an evening program Saturday night. This is a good opportunity to get together in Hanover with classmates and friends in other classes and the Skiway should provide fun and a challenge for all.

Get a group of classmates together and plan to be there. Reservations may be made by writing Dennis A. Dinan, 203 Crosby Hall, Hanover, N. H. 03755.

Earl Chambers is piling on the respon- sibility at Marine Midland Bank in New York where he has been elceted vice president in charge of the safekeeping and trust operations division of the personal trust department. He continues as a vice president in the capital and estate management division, a position he assumed in September 1969 when he transferred worn the Rochester branch. After living in Providence, R. I., and Rochester for a number of years, Earl and his family, Nancy and daughters Sarah and Lydia, are back in his native Connecticut, living in Riverside.

George Fifield retired from the U. S. Army last January where he had been serving as a Lieutenant Colonel. He is now with the home office of State Mutual Life Assurance Company in Worcester, Mass. George and Helen have four children, George Jr. at Princeton, Class of '72, Pete who will be starting as a freshman at Cornell next fall, and two daughters who may have an interest in Dartmouth.

George Woods has announced that he is a candidate for reelection to the State House of Representatives in Massachusetts. George lives in Franklin and has served one term in the legislature and five terms on the Franklin Board of Selectmen.

John Fenno was in Hanover last fall getting his son Chris settled for his junior year. He reports that the Hanover scene is much the same except there are more girls in evidence and more hair on the boys! John has left Beech-Nut and in between job hunting is catching up on projects around the home in Canajoharie, N. Y. John was purchasing agent and hopes he will find something in the Mohawk Valley area. He and Grace have two sons, ages 17 and 12 and they manage to keep him active.

Bob Stewart has changed jobs and is now with ARCO as sales manager for Orange County. Bob and Verle have five children and live in Fullerton, Calif. I think Bob still holds the title as first and only grandparent among '48's.

A brief note from Marv Axelrod indicates he is working hard and with good reason! He has two children in college and a third getting married! Marv and Buzzy live in Waban, Mass., and he is in the business of manufacturing men's and boys' sportswear in Boston.

Among our representation at Dartmouth Alumni College last summer was CharlieKaufman who reports that it was a great experience as usual. Lyn and three children all go and their teenagers prefer it to any other vacation. They had a chance to catch up with Bobo Russell and family who were there too. Charlie reports that he ran into Jim Schwedland on the Connecticut River. They went fishing together several days later and the Class Anti-Pollution Committee should note there's life in the old river yet as Charlie caught his first walleye and Jim caught four!
