This Alumni Magazine will arrive well after the end of the football season but if the notes seem a bit disjointed, it is because at the time they are being written, I have just returned from the Yale game. The effects of this coupled with the excitement of the Harvard game the week before have taken their toll. Bobo Russell and I were ready for intensive care at Mary Hitchcock before Yale was laid to rest. First time I have been in the West stands since 1948 and it was good to be back. Also saw Wally and Joyce Baker and son Tim, an undergraduate. Tim remarked that at the rate things were going, his voice would not last as long as the football season.
Pete Foster reports he recently heard from Woody DeYoe. Woody, a lawyer, has been involved in defense litigation for the past 16 years and is with the firm of DeYoe, DeYoe & Guiney in Paterson, N. J. At present New Jersey is involved in the "no fault" automobile controversy and Woody has been in touch with DickDonahue, President of the Massachusetts Bar, about Massachusetts' experience. Woody and Meg have four children, ages 13 through 17, and live in Ridgewood. They hope to make the 25th Reunion but will have a son graduating from high school so there is the possibility of a conflict.
Speaking of the 25th Reunion, this was THE subject of the class Executive Committee Meeting held in Hanover, October 9th. Attendance at the meeting was the best yet with President John Van Raalte,' Treasurer Pete Foster, Mouse Taylor, Dick Barlow, Jim Randolph, Larry Pedersen, Paul Liscord, Joe Smith, Dick Bredenberg, Lou Perry, John Hatheway, Dick Dahl, Mary Axelrod and Lloyd Krumm.
We discussed finances for the Reunion, a theme, the Class Book which Jim Randolph of "Business Week" will do, and regional meetings to precede the Reunion. These meetings will be held next year before the Yale game in New Haven, the Harvard game in Boston and the Princeton game in Hanover.
After the meeting, had a chance to sit with John and Barbara Van Raalte at the Columbia game. John Jr. is still most enthusiastic about Exeter. Barbara and the three youngest children spent a month in a villa in Italy last summer while John Jr. was in England and John joined the family for part of the time.
Dick and Dot Dahl and eldest son Chris also enjoyed the game. Dick will be working with Dick Barlow on the Reunion so it promises to be a real spectacular.
Mouse Taylor managed reservations for the weekend at the Coolidge and his comments provided the lighter side of the meeting.
Jim Randolph looked the same as he did when I last saw him in Ottumwa, lowa (circa 1946!) Marv and Buzzy Axelrod had two of their girls with them, lovely charming young ladies who fortunately take after their mother!
Dick Bredenberg won the prize for traveling the furthest, coming all the way from St. Petersburg, Fla. Actually Dick's number three son Lief is at Mt. Hermon and he was up for the weekend looking at the school. Son Eric, who worked in Sweden last year, is studying at Florida Presbyterian College where Dick teaches. Dick's oldest daughter Ingrid is married, and so Dick has joined the ranks of the grandfathers.
John Lanzetta didn't get to the meeting but he was in Hanover that weekend. John went on to Stowe where he and the Van Raaltes got together on Sunday.
