In spite of the fact that old-timers like the majority of Tenners can imagine they are hearing the walls of our Old Dartmouth beginning to crumble, we can get a trifling bit of satisfaction in the figures for the Ivy Colleges showing total applications for next fall's entering classes compared with those of last fall's entering classes. We recall that one question shown in the Trustees' Committee report of a year ago was "If we remain an all-men's college will our competitive position be damaged?" In the recent report referred to above Dartmouth is shown to have neither lost nor gained in total applications. The figure is 4600 for each of the two years—the classes of 1974 and 1975. The two colleges showing gain in Class of '75 applications are Columbia and Cornell—the two which have been co-educational for many years. Each of the remaining five Ivy Colleges show losses. So, Tenners, let your grins turn to genuine smiling.

Another and quite different reaction to the Tenner Greetings, sent out before last Christmas has come from the pen of Dr.Thayer Smith. His father was Dean of the Medical School. Here is Thayer's diagnosis: "Thank you for your nostalgic Christmas greeting. I can see I missed a lot by living at home through the first three years of college, but had a very satisfactory senior year with the sort of social life your card suggests when I moved into the C & G House with George Lenny McClintock for my room-mate and Clarke Tobin next door—both great kidders. Earl Fierce used to have difficulty getting up in the morning, so the boys bought an enormous cannon cracker and set it off under his bed, and he surely got up quickly that time.

"As all three of my California sons came east last summer I am not going out there until late spring or summer, but my present plan is to drive as I always have, which enables me to call on good friends on the way. One place I hope to hit is Crawfords-ville, Ind., so I can look over Thad Seymour and family, a friend who I hoped would be permanently at Dartmouth. Of course our reunion date must have priority over everything else so I will have to make my plans around that."

Herb Woods, long-time resident of Deep River, Conn., and willing servant in the community'.? affairs was recently presented with a beautiful desk set and a framed expression of affection for "fourteen years of dedicated service" to the Deep River Ambulance Association.

Whit and Karen Eastman have been making their visits to Tenners in and around their base, Sanibel Island. Their recent catching up was with Ned andGladys Loveland at Fort Myers. Whit tells us: "They both seem pretty well. Ned continues to go bowling once a week and also attends Rotary regularly. He is writing the history of the Ft. Myer Rotary Club. One of their daughters (married) has been associated with Antioch College for years. She now has an assignment which takes her all over the U. S. talking to Antioch alumni seeking `jobs for Antioch graduates."

Latest travel notes from the Sandbergs: "who are trying to avoid the rigors of a Boston winter. We are at Marbella (Costa del Sol) and from here we plan to go to the Canaries and Morocco."

Herb Wolff is hoping that some more Tenners who are able will add their names to his growing list of Tenners who have provided for the College in wills or life insurance. Herb has made clear in his letters on this subject that the College is always in need of our help financially. A glance at the increases in tuition charge since our day will remind us that the needs never have grown smaller through the 60-odd years.

More sad news has been received. RalphNoyes died in February after a long illness. He was a loyal Tenner from the north country, and was present at many of our reunions. We shall miss him. From several Tenners we have had word of the passing of Dick Boerker's widow, Irene. She was one who with Dick attended most of the Class reunions. Her interest in the Class and the College was always in evidence and both she and Dick will be missed.

Keep in mind this year's reunion dates June 14-16.
