This is the month whose showers bring flowers. It is the start of the baseball season and the time to settle up with Uncle Sam. And it marks the beginning of another Alumni Fund Drive. This year, our efforts will be led by Dick Harrison and his assistant, Don Sheffield, so let's give them our strongest support between now and June. ,
We have another classmate who is heavily involved in the Alumni Fund, and it is none other than Seth DeV. Strickland, Vice Chairman, Alumni Fund Com- mittee. At this very moment, Seth is visiting some of the garden spots of our country— Buffalo, Albany, Detroit, Philadelphia—to participate in class agent workshop sessions and to be a main speaker at these local dinners. Nothing like the banquet circuit, hey Seth?
Max Eveleth has left International Data Corporation to join a new enterprise, the Robert E. Radican and Company, Inc. of Providence, R. I., as vice president respon- sible for corporate development and the acquisition program. The recently formed congeneric company is presently negotiating acquisition of companies that manufacture a product or offer a service to other businesses, such as marketing assistance, computer products and services, and financial, personnel, information or databank services.
Tom Brock has been supplying me with the news he receives on the backs of the dues forms. This is a great source of information and I hope those of you who have not paid for this year will do so and will take a few minutes to tell me what you have been doing. Dr. Harvey Duchin used the back of the dues form to tell us that he has left Fort Polk in beautiful Louisiana and has entered practice with an associate in downtown Philadelphia. Harv has established an 08-GYN practice at the Pennsylvania Hospital and the Graduate Hospital of the Univ. of Penn. He has also begun a teaching appointment on the staff of the U. of P. Medical School. The Uuchins live in the Oak Hill Apts. in Penn Valley, Pa.
Dr. Frank Curren is finishing up his third year as a psychiatry residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and admits to being out of contact with Dartmouth even though he did get to the '69 Harvard game. I saw Frank after the game in the Cage, and swear he looked just like General Custer, complete with beard, moustache and suede jacket. Frank maintains a bachelor apartment on Green Street in Cambridge.
Dr Bill Davidson also used the back of the dues form to send in a few notes. Bill received his D.M.D. from Harvard in 1965 and then he did his orthodontics residency the Univ. of Minn. While there, he Picked up his Ph.D. in Anatomy in 1969 The Davidsons have now moved to Hartford where Bill is with the faculty of the U. of Conn. Health Center. While Bill is at work, Joan takes care of Matthew and Peter.
A couple of guys were too busy to write, so their wives were kind enough to send in some news with the dues. Dr. Jerry Bart's better half states that Jerry has enjoyed his first year in practice with the Kelsey Clinic in Houston and they recently spent several days in Puerto Rico at the annual Hematology Convention. No question about it—doctors have more opportunity to write off vacation trips than any other profession. Linda Martinelli has been keeping Ray busy painting their "new" 60-year-old home in Hightstown, N. J. In the two years since purchasing the house, Ray has displayed great skill as a carpenter, mason, electrician, painter, etc. During his free time, he enjoys his work at the David Sarnoff Research Center (RCA) in Princeton. When not helping Ray with the painting, Linda is kept busy with daughters Laura and Allison.
Newly promoted to the rank of vice president is Walt Freedman who assumes with it the responsibility for corporate development at Consolidated Foods Corporation. Walt was president of Oz Foods Corporation in Chicago before joining Consolidated last December. Prior to that he was director of data processing with the Kitchens of Sara Lee, a subsidiary of Consolidated Foods. Walt's wife is the former Sara Lee Lubin and they live in Winnetka with their four children.
Gary Vandeweghe wrote to inform us of a new law firm, Weis, Vandeweghe & Schwartz, which came into being last July. The new firm has offices in San Jose and San Francisco and is involved mostly in tax work. Gary won a county golf tournament this past summer but doesn't say how he did in the Crosby.
A couple of short notes from here and there. Tom Trimarco, assistant Newsletter editor, has left Boston to take a job as Assistant General Counsel in charge of legislation for the Department of Transportation. Mel. Kau recently opened his optometric office in Honolulu. Rog Wolf is now "one of those rare anachronisims, a sole practitioner of law in Tucson. This allows certain freedoms." Tom Machura is married now to the former Nancy McNichols and they have one daughter. Dr. JackKline Jr. will complete his residency in Therapeutic Radiology at Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital, Chicago this June. The Klines have two young sons at home. Finally, a couple of very late birth announcements. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Weg welcomed Geoffrey, their second child last April. Ken is with the International Division of Bristol-Myers and we run into each other on occasion. Dr. and Mrs. SaulRoskes announced the birth of their third son last August. Saul is practicing in Baltimore.
On March 1, Dartmouth played Fairleigh-Dickinson at Madison Square Garden. Dick Aronsohn, assistant chairman of Outrageous Events, reserved courtside seats and planned a post-game dinner at Gallagher's 33. In attendance were: DickGriggs, Phil Kron, Bill Lum, BruceMolinaroli, A 1 Stowe, Aronsohn, Sheffield and myself. Both Lum and Stowe looked well tanned and rested from recent vacations in the Caribbean and Mexico. I also saw Al Friedman in the lobby waiting for Chuck Kaufman who had his ticket. The event certainly qualified as an outrageous one as Dartmouth did not have one of its better days. The team looked tired and except for James Brown, did not move around at all. The result was a 53-48 loss. However, the dinner conversation quickly turned to other subjects such as finance and law, and our rather dismal showing was forgotten. Wait 'til next year.
