The mild winter continues, the skier lament, but on my heating bill I'll save 20 percent. The warm weather has been a real problem to local ski area operators because even the nights have been too warm to make snow. My kids have not used their new sleds yet and have only gone skating twice What's worse, they'll probably take the next size next year.

Several classmates penned short notes on the backs of their dues slips, and our illustrious treasurer was kind enough to forward them to me. Note the alphabetical organization. Dr. Tom Ashby is practicing internal medicine in Caldwell, Idaho, and has joined several other doctors in the Caldwell Internal Medicine Clinic. Tom reports his wife Nancy and his two children are enjoying living on a real farm. I did a little checking in our green book and found that Tom came to Dartmouth from Parma, Idaho. A quick look at my atlas revealed that Caldwell is 15 miles east of Parma and both towns are several miles due west of Boise, if you know where that is. Tom went to Dartmouth and Harvard Medical Schools, interned in Rochester, N.Y., and did his residency at the Mayo Clinic. He also did two years with the National Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta.

Frank Burnap is now living in Old Forge, N. Y., which is deep in the Adirondack Mountains. Frank is now in business for himself after spending eight years with supermarkets in New Jersey and Philadelphia. He has opened his own operation and when not working can be found skiing in the winter and boating in the summer. Morris Feldman has become a community affairs writer for the Valley Times Newspaper chain serving Southwest Chicago. Wayne Givens has moved to Fort Collins, Colo., but doesn't say what he's doing. Wayne mentioned the beautiful country out there, and with its many summer and winter facilities, it must be a far cry from Rochester.

Dr. Allan Greenberg opened his private practice in ophthalmology last summer. Allan's office is at the South Jersey Medical Center in Cherry Hill, N. J., which is a suburb of Philadelphia. Stan Jones wrote to tell us of his new position down in the nation's capital. Stan is now on the professional staff, Senate Health Subcommittee which is chaired by Sen. Ted Kennedy. Finally, Rog Wolf has joined a new law firm (he forms a new one each year it seems) in Tucson. The firm, Risner, Wolf & Raven, is doing criminal and "movement" law, dope cases, taking on the university, etc. Rog also reported that he spent a month in Europe last summer.

At Class Officers Weekend last May, I happended to sit next to a remarkable older man who was also, a class secretary. He turned out to be Dr. Stan Weld, Class of 1912, and later that day he was presented with the Secretary of the Year award. Evidently, Dr. Weld culls through the Hartford papers for Dartmouth news and then sends it on to the appropriate secretary. The following two notices are courtesy of Stan. Dr. William Davidson, an assistant professor of orthodontics at the University of Connecticut Dental School, has been named its associate dean for undergraduate education. Bill will be in charge of developing the curriculum for the dental school, which will graduate its first class this May. As reported in an earlier column, Bill went to Harvard Dental School, got a Ph.D. at Minnesota, and lives with his wife and two children in Hartford. Joel Alvord, senior veep at Hartford National Bank and Trust Co., was elected a director of Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. Joel has been with the bank since leaving the Army in 1963. He has an MBA from Tuck and is also a director of Bristol Press Publishing Co. and Hartford Stage Co. Joel lives in Manchester, where he is also a trustee of the local hospital.

Allen Stowe has been elected president of West Shore Publishing Inc., a graphic arts and computer typography company in Bogota, N.J. Al has been West Shore's counsel since 1967, but now will assist the company's chairman in running affiliated companies which include a leasing firm, book publisher, clothing manufacturer and a real estate firm. Allen got together with Dick Aronsohn, a lawyer in Hackensack, for breakfast recently, and Dick found that the executive suite has not changed Al very much He still orders draft beer with his scrambled eggs and bacon, which is obviously a habit Al picked up at the Pit in Hanover. After knocking around with the bulls and bears of Wall Street, it's nice to see Al really working again.

The engagement of Miss Edith Salva to James Townsend was recently announced. Jim is assistant trust officer of the Winters National Bank and Investment Co. of Dayton, Ohio, which he joined after receiving an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson. His fiance is a teacher in Lodi, N. J., and is preparing for the wedding which is set for

Peter Klaren, adjunct assistant professor of history at Dartmouth, presented a paper at the Latin Studies Association's annual meeting in Austin this past December. The paper was entitled "Agrarian Reform in Contemporary Peru, 1931 Revisited." Pete, who is also assistant editor for the Papers of Daniel Webster at Dartmouth College, assumed both his positions at the College this year. Previously, he had been assistant professor of history at Washington State University. Pete earned his MA and Ph.D. degrees at UCLA and was a Foreign Area Fellow in Peru in 1966.

Finally, here's a story that look place last June, but is becoming more topical again with the approach of another summer. Dr. Joel A. Saperstein achieved a moral victory when he accompanied a professional marathon swimmer in an attempt to swim from Graves Light to the South Boston Yacht Club. Under the sponsorship of the Metropolitan District Commission and the Save our Shores Society of Boston, Joel was attempting to dramatize the effect of pollution on Boston Harbor. After a heroic try he emerged at .Deer Island Light, swimming six miles in three and a half hours. Even though the water was exceptionally cold with five-foot waves and a strong headwind, Joel felt the biggest deterrent was pollution. Joel graduated from Tufts Med School, served in the Air Force, was an Orthopedic Surgical resident at a Massachusetts hospital and is now a resident at Boston City Hospital. A physical fitness enthusiast, he is a member of the L Street Brownies (they swim in the ocean every day!) and the YMCA.
