This should be the last column before the summer hiatus, and it provides the perfect opportunity to clean up my files of unreported news clippings. At the end of this week several members of the Executive Committee will be heading up to Hanover to attend the annual Class Officers Weekend. It will give us a chance to compare notes with other classes and to talk with students about life on the Hanover Plain, 1971 style.
Alex Summer Jr. has been elected president and a director of the New Jersey Builders, Owners and Managers Association, a statewide organization of companies and executives concerned with the construction and operation of apartment complexes. Alex is a principal and executive officer of Alexander Summer Companies, realtors and mortgage bankers. Alex is also a director of the Board of Realtors of Eastern Bergen County and an associate director of Peoples Trust of New Jersey. He serves on the American Arbitration Association and is a director of the Better Business Bureau of Bergen, Passaic and Rockland Counties' The Summers live in Saddle River.
Spalding has a new Director of Advertising and Sales Promotion. The firm division of Questor Corporation, has 'an. pointed Rick Yocum to their top advertising position and Rick is up in Chicopee, Mass., directing Spalding's national advertising, sales promotions, trade displays and catalogs. Prior to this move, the Yocums lived in Darien, Conn., while Rick commuted to his former job as product group manager with Squibb-Beech Nut. After Dartmouth, he received his MBA at NYU and spent several years as an account executive with Young & Rubicam before moving to Squibb-Beech Nut. So, all you golfers and tennis buffs, let's be sure we all play with Spaldings from here on out. And Rick, I'll be glad to test market any new items which you introduce.
Two clippings from Hartford. Roger Hanlon has been named a partner in the Hartford law firm of Day, Berry and Howard. Rog is also a member of the Connecticut Bar's committee's on conservation and environmental quality. The other news concerns Pete Schwartz. It seems as if Pete was the main speaker at the annual GOP Lincoln Day Dinner last February (see what happens when you clean out a file) in Glastonbury, Conn. Pete is a partner in the law firm of Gordon, Muir and Fitzgerald and has been very active in local Republican affairs. For example, he is a member of the Republican Town Committee, captained the 1970 Finance Drive and is a member of the Hartford County, Connecticut, and American Bar Associations. Pete is also president of the Dartmouth Club of Hartford and vice-president of the National Dartmouth Club Officers' Association.
Ben Parish III has been appointed systems manager—computer systems development at New England Mutual Life Insurance Company in Boston. Sen is responsible for the maintenance and development of all New England Life computer control programs, providing technical support to all computer programmers and establishing technical training courses and conventional methods of operation. He and his wife, Barbara, live in Wakefield and are the parents of three children.
Another rather old news clip announced that Elliott Carr has run for school committee in Pembroke, Mass. By now the election must be over and perhaps Elliott will be good enough to let us know how he made out. Elliott is director of research for the Savings Bank Association of Massachusetts as well as the firm's treasurer. Elliott is also president of the East Pembroke Community Club and a member of the Pembroke Players.
Mr. and Mrs. James Foch Jr. announced the birth of their daughter, Brand; Lynn, on March 21 in Boulder, Colo.
Received a welcome letter from Lou Perullo who hadn't been in contact with us for some time. Lou and Joanie seem to be somewhat permanently headquartered in Worcester, Mass., where Lou is Assistant Director of Advertising and Sales Promotion with Thom McAnn. The Perullos have a new daughter, a new house on the top of a 1,400 foot hill and a new hobby—racing. They have a snomobile which has Lou to victory in three events in the 1971 Bay State Amateur Snomobile Champion-ships. They also have a 1970 Buick built for competition which has been raced at several local dragstrips. The Perullos are also readying their 1955 Ford wagon for the United Stock Car Club's Demolition Derby this spring. Never a dull moment around their household. Lou says it breaks up the Monday to Friday routine; and is still playing his drums when he isn't behind the wheel...
