It may surprise you as much as it did me to realize that I am back at the old stand as class secretary. Unfortunately, TomSchroth has found it impossible to accept the duties since moving from Washington to Maine, so it's back with yours truly for another five. I suppose, however, if CharlieDonovan could stand it for two terms, so can I. My secretary, however, is another matter and she has become extremely bitchy since receipt of the news (I dictated "churlish" as the adjective and the substitution is hers).
When our new president, Frank Hartmann, called me, I expressed a willingness to resume the secretaryship on the condition that I need only write about the Class of '43—in which I take great pride—and that I need not support, much less write, glowingly about events at the College over the last three or four years. With this understanding, I urgently seek your letters, postcards and telephone calls to the end that I may have something about which to write.
In view of the fact that the secretaryship has vested for less than a week, the news consists of only the following list of Frank's appointees to the Class Executive Committee: C, Carlton Coffin, Charles M. Donovan, James D. Elleman, Robert Edwin Field, Waldo L. Fielding, Robert R. Gray, H. Brereton Hall, Phillip R. Jackson, John A. Koslowski, Robert I. Lappin, Edward W. Lider, Robert C. McQueen, John C. Meleney, Emil Mosbacher, Jr., George B. Munroe, Edward A. O'Brien, Calvin J. Osberg, Morton H. Pechter, R. Donald Reich, Fred F. Stockwell.
Dick Bugbee, who has been the director of public relations for American District Telegraph, will now be doing all the selling for that company. He has the new title of "Manager, Merchandising," which means he is responsible for advertising, publicity, direct mail, exhibits, publications, and visual aids, in addition to public relations. Dick and Hazel live in Rutherford, N. J., at 38 Carlton Terrace, in case you want to send a telegram.
The informal fall reunion and the Brown game occur in but two days and Susie and I and our three sons shall be in attendance. Next month's column will give you a rundown, but in the meantime, don't hesitate to write.
The Class of 1943 notes appear on Page 81.
