Regretfully we record the passing of classmate Dr. Harry Trapp Jr. in his home town of Laconia, N. H. (see In Memoriam). Harry succumbed to a heart attack on December 10.
Howie Chivers is reported in The Dartmouth as having postponed a planned price increase at the Dartmouth Skiway in an effort to support the federal price freeze. Even in the frozen north Phase II leaves no room for a thaw. Howie has again signed up Simon Mayer, Austrian ski instructor and former member of the Austrian National Ski Team, for his ninth year as the director of the area's ski school. This for any of you guys who may be planning to take advantage of those alumni family weekends this winter.
Dutch Holland (that's Francis E.) resigned in November as president of the Union Twist Drill Division of the Cutting Tools Group of Litton Industries. Dutch was appointed president of the UTD division in January 1969, but had also continued at the time of his appointment as general manager, a position to which he was appointed in December 1966. He had joined the company way back in 1946, and had moved up the ladder moving from various divisions until taking on the top responsibility at UTD.
John Treadway was a subject of the "Name in the News" column of our hometown press the day before Christmas. The column reviewed the local tussle that prevailed in Williamstown, Mass., with regards to a zoning hearing for a new site of the famed Williams Inn, the Treadway headquarters. Seems that the college is taking over the old structure as a dormitory for women, and the Treadway folks are fixing to put up a fine new edifice down the pike a bit. John was the patient antagonist, who carried the day by convincing not only the planning board, but sufficient fellow townsmen of the advantages of such a move, and carried the day without losing his dignity. The article also recounted the traditional Wassail ceremony that John started in the fine old Inn, complete with a Christmas minstrel, yeomen, wenches and jesters, a Yule log and vittles that ran to a wild boar. It's the kind of affair that people come for miles to enjoy.
We have a wedding to report, of a niece pretty Mary Rohde, daughter of Dustyand Happy Rohde, on December 17 in New Canaan, Conn. Dusty walked the aisle with dignified aplomb, and proved an expansive host at the reception, which affair included among its guest list our ebullient president, Bert MacMannis and his shy bride Sally.
Now perhaps you won't believe it, but we've reached the bottom of a tidy pile of news tidbits, which perhaps reflects how the cold months slow the pens of our classmates who make the news. Still, we do have three changes of address which tell their own story. Muggsey Bly has changed his address in Muskegon, Mich., to 3248 Roosevelt Rd., Apt. X-12, Zip 49441. Perhaps this is because his youngsters are of sufficient age to have flown the nest. We also wonder if he still hangs in there as a leading political light, having served a number of terms on the City Council. BudFinck has moved north, from Tucson to 2826 East Osborn Rd., Apt. 324. Phoenix. Ariz. 85016. When last heard from, Bud was in the furniture business, and we would be inclined to believe that he still is. Some few years ago, he rested his head in Nogales, a border town that lies half in the USA and half in Mexico, so subsequent moves to Tucson, and now Phoenix show a positive progression to the northward.
Opie Richardson was an insurance man some few years back out of Boston. Until the other day we had him listed in South Yarmouth, Mass., but now we see he's moved to 31 Franklin St., Provincetown, Mass. 02657, out on the toe of the Cape Cod foot. Whether this is a business move to .greener pastures, or whether it is a deliberate move to pasture, a state of life that gets more attractive with each passing year, is open for speculation.
Until our next, let us leave only with a quiet request for a bit of information as to the latest in the world of '39. Drop us a note.
